Looking for frame suggestions

Hello cruisers,

While I wasn’t planning on it, I recently picked up a pair of 6-spoke 28” mag wheels (currently with 37-622 or 700-35C tires on them) for an unbeatable price and have decided to build a cruiser based on them.

Having said that, the wheels have disc brakes that I’d like to use, and my goal is to have multiple gears in place of the single speed (I know, not a beach cruiser strictly speaking), but I have no idea if there’s any cruiser-style frames that have mounting points for disc brake calipers. I’d prefer a step-through as well, but that seems like it’ll be even harder to find.

Any suggestions? The other option would be to find a different frame that resembles a cruiser and build that up, but any suggestions on brands or specific frames to look for would be a great start.

Look for Electras, some newer ones have disc brake mounts.

Also, if it doesnt have to be a conventional beach cruiser styled stepthrough, Check out Ruff Cycles Lady Tango.

Much obliged, I didn’t realize the Electras has disc brake mounts, as most of the pictures I’ve seen have rim brakes. At least they should be easy (and inexpensive) to source.

I appreciate the tip about the Ruff Cycles; I’ll check them out too.

Edit: Just looked at Ruff Cycles, and those frames are gorgeous... somehow I doubt I’ll be able to pick one of those up anytime soon, as this will be much more of a budget build than that.

Not all electras have discs, only some of their newer ones have tabs for them. If on a tight budget, might want to check Micargi as well, about half the price of ruff frames if bought new.

You could also go asking around for used frames from different fb-groups/forums dedicated to cruisers and custom bikes. There are a lot of them.

Edit. Best one to go asking around would be Rat Rod Bikes, either their fb-page or the actual forum. Thats a biiiig community of folks digging these kinda bikes.

Right on, I’m a fan of rat rods in general, so they sounds promising. Funny enough I have a couple fenders and a chain guard off of an old bike that have some nice patina on them, so I was planning on using those as well.

I’ve started checking out the xbiking subreddit as well, and there’s some frames on there that are pretty inspiring, so this may not actually end up with a classic cruiser frame after all (although I do expect it to be a cruiser in spirit/function).

Again, much obliged on the tips; now to figure out how much I actually want to spend on a frame and then track one down.
