There's really no reason to take the cello off, unless you have a cigar that is too dry/damp which you really want to smoke soon - then it will adjust slightly faster out of the cello.
Otherwise, the cello helps protect the wrapper, and keeps the humidity of the cigar marginally more stable relative to fluctuations in the humidor itself. Win/win.
Great haul man. You will really enjoy these.
Thank you. I'm just happy this community turned me on to cbid. Might be lame but I had so much fun picking out lots and checking on them throughout the day to see if they were won. I will still support my local shops but the bigger hauls will probably be online.
This is just about everybody in the community, my friend. No shame int hat at all. Everyone loves winning on Cbid for cheap lol
Cigar noob here. Grabbed these from cbid for my 1st online purchase. I get the addiction now. RP sampler, AB prensado, various MF's, and some monte's. I currently have them in a large boveda bag with 69% packs. I am yet to purchase a traditional humidor. I do want one for the aesthetic and cedar influence. How long should I let them rest before smoking? Also, once I get the humidor, should cellophane be left on? I like the idea of getting some age on them, influencing each other and taking on some of the cedar notes. Does the cello prevent the cedar taste from developing?
Excellent noob purchase. Personal preference, but I take most of my cello off for reasons you describe. Cello breathes, but I feel it quickens the resting process to remove.
Seems like you already have the correct answer on how long to rest your cigars, small batch did a great study on the topic that I'll link below if you are interested

Three weeks. I've been convinced weigh the cello on arguments. Cigars retain more of their own individual smell if you leave the cello on. Otherwise all the costs in your humidor will smell pretty similar after a year or so.
Just MO but I have been in this Cigar thing of ours since 97. Came to the conclusion very quickly that cigars are like sponges. If you take the cello off and store different cigars together eventually over time they will all marry together. Cello breathes. It also Acts like a barrier from other cigars. I buy different cigars to try different tastes. Come to your open conclusion & there's different opinions about this subject but until you decide the best thing to do would be to leave the cello on 😊
Excellent way of putting it into perspective. I Haven't thought of it that way. Very good advice! Thank you! I really just want to experience what the blender intended.
6 weeks
I'm a no cello person.
Was this all one lot on cbid? Like a sampler?
The RP's are a sampler. 20 RP's for like $65, I believe I got them for. I thought it was a good deal because I purchased the RP 1999 alone for $11 at a local shop a few weeks ago. The rest are 5 packs and singles.
Ooh la le bijou.
Haha never had it but I've heard good things. Think I'm most excited to try that one.
Man it’s definitely my favorite stick at the moment. Think you’ll really love it. On the strong side so you probably wanna have some food in your belly. Enjoy man!!
Yeah the regular stores do charge much more. Mostly because of the cost of the business. I do see people on cbid go crazy on the bidding and overpay.
2-4 weeks, indulging in your sungrown wrappers earlier and your shade/maduro ones a bit later. The shade ones could split if they got too cold or dry and the maduro ones might not burn well if they were overhumidified. I'm making a big generalization here. You can smoke them right off the truck and they could be fine. These are just best odds practices, something that works for everyone.
I’d be lighting one up immediately
Where are you keeping them if you don’t have a humidor? Just in a ziplock with the Boveda pack?
Boveda makes an actual bag that is thick enough to hold humidity. They have S,M,L sizes. I have a small for travel that holds 5 smokes. I'm keeping this haul in the large size that can hold about 50 singles.
I'd say at least two weeks. SBC has a good article on the effect of shipping on cigars: https://www.smallbatchcigar.com/how-does-shipping-affect-cigars-temperature-humidity-and-you
Cello on or off is preference. I personally leave mine on as they protect a bit against wrapper damage if it gets bumped around.
I rest mine for a couple weeks. Longer in the summer due to the extreme heat they may encounter in a mail truck or mailbox. Leave the cello on to protect your cigars. It's a personal choice really but one could damage a cigar while digging through the humidor. My Father 👍
The damage while digging part rings true! These are fragile beauties we’re dealing with here
Thank you! I will let them chill at least a few weeks. Just want to get all the flavor the blender intended and get the most value from my investment. Good point about the cello. Cigars do seem more fragile than I thought.
