My anxiety is being validated by COVID-19 and I am scared it will set back my progress

Made some huge progress in 2019 with my anxiety relating to people and trust issues. Yay me.
However yesterday I had to leave my house for the first time in a week and while out in public caught myself thinking and feeling very similar fears. The worst part is that I have health issues putting me in the high risk category, so those fears and trust issues are being validated in my head. I worry that I will loose all progress I had made because of this new situation. However, compared to my previous incident, I am fully aware of what is happening in my head, what it is capable of making me think/do and hopefully some time address this issues before the virus situation gets worse.
So Reddit, here I am looking for advice. How do I stop myself from going down this path again, especially when this anxiety is justified?

(Chronic respiratory diseases are looking at a 6% death rate. So if 16 of me got sick, 1 would die)

It very well could set you back merely due to the circumstances and vague nature of this situation. I have anxiety and this unprecedented time has been very challenging to me. Try to take extra care of yourself. I’ve tried relaxation techniques, talking to a friend, and daily exercise. These things have helped. I also set up a tele-health appointment with my doctor for next week. Best of luck to you.

Most people have anxiety over the virus, you aren’t unique in that regard. But I’d say if something like this sets you back that far mentally, you haven’t really made as much progress as you thought.

That’s great. All the hard work you have done is paying off to help you through a situation that is a legitimate source of stress. You’re doing good. It’s probably going to get harder before it gets easier, but stick with your coping tools and resources and you can get through it.

You’re actually more equipped than the average person to process the feelings that this situation creates. Use your tools.
