Does anyone have any information about the elusive "dimmer knob" I've seen some old liquid heads talk about?

In a few interviews with and videos by people who have done liquids for a while they've mentioned a dimmer knob or switch that allows them to adjust the brightness of the projector. Does anyone know anything about how to go around making one or finding something similar?

I know I could just use a video mixer or some analog gear to do it but I'd like to have something dedicated for it.

You can wire a resistive dimmer inline with the lamp in projectors that use incandescent or halogen lamps.

This would need to be after whatever is being used to drop the line voltage to the lamp voltage.

Don’t wire your fans to the dimmer. They want to stay running.

The color of you image will shift orange as it dims.

As an alternative you can use an mechanical iris in the light path to dim an image without the color shift.
