Surely, the NHL will be canceled as well.
WHO said US become the epicenter of the pandemic. Trump literally begged for aid from South Korea. The situation will be very ugly there very soon. Especially because they have the most ineffective healthcare system in the world and a lot of unhealthy people live there. Not to mention they are too stubborn to accept aid from China.
There's no way they get all the players back to North America and then open up all of the stadiums across Canada and the US any time soon. The epidemic is only getting going over here and Canada's lock downs will drag the crisis out over a longer period of time with the hope of saving lives. They should cancel this season, not award the cup, and start talking about what can be done for next season.
I was wondering from day one of the pause whether they'd play 82 games next season, all while the NHL was implying a May-ish return. It just seemed so shortsighted and naive.
In the end it's just sports, right? I mean I realize there's jobs at stake and ownerships that expect income for their investment, but it's tiny in the grand scheme. Sadly, I could still see the NHL trying to play this out in a smaller tournament at a neutral location without fans, just so Gary doesn't lose another cup. He seems adamant about making it happen.
In theory it's to keep owners and advertisers happy, but it sent the wrong message to fans that this was just a slight inconvenience and would blow over. In my mind it's irresponsible to send that kind of message but I can see why it's the NHL's message.

The irony is that it is his own voter base (older people) who are going to be impacted by this virus the most. Y'know, being the most high-risk part of the population. You'd hope that'll change their tune real quick, but they'll just have a scapegoat ready to go and deflect blame. As always.
That is absolute nonsense about millions of lives

It's not the most ineffective, it's horribly overcosted though. the US has the best ICUs and more per capita than most European countries.
I think the KHL was smart here, hope that the NHL follows suit.
Except where they kept trying to play games and two of the teams had to pullout of the playoffs. Honestly NHL is fine as long as they don’t try to rush back. There is already talk of awarding the cup in September.
Fun fact: they posted a picture saying that the Cup won't be awarded
Then they remove these posts and announce that the Board of Governors will decide the winner
Congrats to SKA for winning the Cup
That’ll hold up until CSKA lodges a formal protest.
In russia the formal protest lodges you
I mean SKA is literally Putin’s team, CSKA will have no say in this matter, or that’s if they value their life
Remember when you lot thought the playoffs were rigged because of a hack ‘journalist‘s’ article? Yeah now understand why I have a strong doubt you have an idea of what you’re talking about.
I'm sure the franchise will feel great about "winning," but the players sure won't.
Had they begun their playoffs? Not a real win.
KHL got canceled after the first round. But still, not a real win.
how could they possibly decide who would have won their cup? I really don't know much about the KHL so I will do some read ups on the basics.
