I need milk allergy advice.

Miniest has a non ige mediated milk allergy. All of this is diagnosed by tele-medicine because we can't go to the doctor. (We're in Seattle)

EVERYTHING has milk in it. The TJs nuggets, all of the snacks we give Mini-matho. I have no idea what to feed him to get enough protein and calories into him. There isn't a bean to be found. He is currently subsisting on lunch meat and berries.

I also don't know whether we should become a dairy free zone entirely or not. Mini-matho is almost five and very good about not giving him any, but as he gets older I don't know if it's fair to have a bunch of stuff in the house he can't eat.

I am stuck at home and thinking way too hard about all this. Help?

My son has a dairy allergy and it is very overwhelming at first. The best advice someone gave me was to take it one step at a time. Figure out one safe meal/snack at a time and before you know it you've found all kinds of safe foods. There are dairy free alternatives to just about everything. There are dairy free nuggets, chocolate, chips, margarine, milks, etc. The natural foods section has a lot of allergy friendly packaged foods. Lots of info online with more info on allergy friendly brands. We met with a dietician to make sure we covering everything off in terms of diet.

I was more looking for commiseration and day-to-day advice. I am also capable of using Google.

I’m sorry. It’s what I had left in me last night before bed and I figured you needed info STAT to feed your baby.

I work with allergies, and these two sites are good ones I like. Apologies again.

No worries. Apologies for bitchiness on my part. I'm a little stressed right now.

Ugh, I'm sorry. Baby is 11 months and we've known he has a dairy allergy for about 7 months. Protein is hard, especially if you can't find any beans! He seems to like chicken and pork so we try to offer that every couple of days, mostly slow cooked with some spices or sauce. TJs has veggie chicken nuggets and soy meatballs that are safe. (the chicken-less nuggets are a little chewy, we haven't tried giving them to baby yet). We also try to offer nut butter at breakfast (on pancakes, toast, in oatmeal) but that is hit or miss. Honestly mostly miss these days. :/ Baby LOVES those weird peanut puffs and snap pea crisps/inner peas from TJs. (For anyone concerned about the salt I lick the salt off first.) Someone recommended coconut yogurt as a good source of fats and some protein but I haven't tried yet.

We tried the cashew and the coconut yogurt. He hated the coconut, but liked the cashew. Unfortunately, at $1.50 for one, it's not really a bulk snack.

Oh, I haven't seen cashew yogurt--I will look for it! Yeah, a lot of the dairy alternatives are $$$, especially the tasty stuff. Frustrating because it's also lower in protein and usually calories. :\

I have a long list of food allergies. Milk is in everything!

Non dairy cheese is expensive! The only yogurt I can eat is buy Silk it's a dairy and free brand. I can do almond milk but can't have nuts.
