I've seen criticisms that the new operators aren't as grounded in reality as they used to be but i think Harry (Six) is a reason for this.

Fluff

Rainbow was meant to be the best of the best, a coalition of the finest counter terrorist fighters in the world. If you look at all the launch operators, and most of the operators up until last year, they were fairly realistic and grounded in their uniforms and talents and motivations. Most of them are just best of the best of their CTU.

So why does Rainbow hire a private military company? Why does Oryx, some dude who was missing for 15 years, get let in? Amaru is an archaeologist vigilante, she could be useful but not on the "frontlines" so to the speak. Its like the criteria for entering became more lax. Plus there's Harry opening up a massive stadium and letting the public watch matches between CT operators? Seems like a good way for enemies to know their tactics.

I don't think Harry can be trusted. Ash had reservations with Nighthaven, and that's when i first felt a bit weird about Harry's choices.

I will never understand this. The new ops are incredibly simple. The new defender is stronk. Kali has an underbarrel grenade launcher. Goyo tapes gas cans to shields and Amaru has a grappling hook. New ops are very much as simple as old ones.

Yah people are making it sound like Ubi all of a sudden turned Rainbow into Star Wars, but the Y4 ops seem pretty in line with the rest Team Rainbow. Sure, Y5 is starting out with Iana who’s hologram is pretty sci fi, but they’ve had holograms since Y3. Hell, Y1 ended with a drone with a cloaking device. I think Ubi’s doing a pretty good job with balancing the sci fi with the more grounded ops.

Gridlock is a fatty, which makes absolutely zero sense in the context of this game.

Dokkaebi is an anime girl who hacks cell phones that the best operators in the world all apparently forgot to leave at home.

Amaru yeets herself into objectives.

Oryx is literally the koolaid man.

None of that shit is realistic in any way. Its a huge departure from the feel of the game as it was on launch.

You mean the same cellphones that the Defenders use to access cameras?

Alright, they left their phones at home. Dokkaebi is useless, but so is Valkyrie, Maestro, and every single camera the Defenders have access to.

Gridlock is a fatty

I can already tell you’re incredibly mature.

Dokkaebi hacks the same cellphones that defenders use to look at cameras. Can’t really leave those at home.

Amaru has a fucking grappling hook. Not exactly unheard of or super sci-fi, it’s a very simple concept.

Oryx can run through drywall and jump high. He just goes to the gym lmao, that’s a very realistic ability.

If you wanna talk about sci-fi look no further than launch ops. Thatcher has handheld EMP grenades which don’t exist and even more magically they ignore friendly electronics just because. IQ has a wrist mounted electrical scanner that shows exact outlines of devices instantly and through up to 20 meters of walls and ceilings. Not exactly tactical realism.

Siege has never been realistic and it never will be.

True, i think its all a hidden story line that may end with them killing off a operator or something

Yeah, the hidden story is "we want some of that fortnite cash, and number dont lie"

Or it could be that

Maybe. I just feel like rainbow was never really "realistic" and used a lot of game physics, and ubi just decided to accept that when adding the newer ops

I mean it's not entirely bad, especially when there are nations without big, famous, or even any CTU units. I think its a nice to have Harry deciding who fits best in a team with personality because after a while it's gonna get boring having every op from every unit be "best of class, rugged battle hardened" because that personality description got boring after the Pathfinders.

I also think Harry is trying to provide new operators that can prove their worth on the team and allow them to learn and grow in a team setting especially against a common and universal threat like terrorism. Especially when he iterates that anybody that can be seen as an enemy is better to add to Rainbow than letting them fight for whoever.
