What is the most impressive building - or architectural space - that you have been in?

Impressive in the sense of leaving an impression on you, that is.

Often, this impression will be linked to a particular experience or event within that place, so feel free to include or exclude that context as you wish.

Same, and with the machinegun armed Egyptian soldier, pinching my but, it became quite the thrilling experience I would never forget.

Impressive for the wrong reasons (but I loved it) - The Tricorn Centre, Portsmouth UK (demolished around 15 years ago)

Oodi -library in Helsinki is pretty cool! It's amazing how it looks like some kind of alien building from the future but it still fits in so well with all the old architecture downtown.

The Capitol building and Senate were both pretty cool when I went there on my senior trip absolutely loved Washington DC and can't wait to go back again. Also was cool sitting in and listening to the government officials talk even if it wasn't that important. Highly recommend visiting and can't wait to go back again. The paintings on the ceilings and the statues definitely sealed it. Absolutely spectacular.

Winchester cathedral. Just the way it was designed, I'm not even religious, but it makes you feel so humble when you walk in.

What's yours?

In terms of making an impression on me, it would be the Abbey at Mont St. Michel - and specifically the western terrace of the abbey, from which one can contemplate, scorn or pity the island, the bay and the whole world.

Or

Ty Newedd, on the Llŷn Peninsula, where I spent a week studying the Mabinogion a good few years back, and which is the closest place to Rivendell IRL that I have ever known.

Either La Basilica del Pilar or pretty much any of the buildings from my Alma mater, University of Georgia. First one because it was basically the center of the town and I thought it was quite something to have basically a dozen different little chapels housed in one building. Plus, the roofing tile is very nice and the main plaza outside the Basilica is very relaxing. Second one is mostly out of a weird nostalgia and realizing that this place pretty much shaped me into being the adult I am today. It's got some pretty places, though a lot was ugly and it's not particularly old, but it certainly made an impact on me. Still happy to walk under the arches today : )

I remember being really impressed by a church when I visited Washington, DC. But I can’t remember the name. DC also has such cool architecture in general. Too bad there were rats everywhere at night.

Probably the Sagrada Familia or the St. Peter's Basilica? La Scala opera house is also really beautiful on the inside
