Does anyone know if / how you'll be able to connect midi instruments like keyboards to the iPad? Think it'll work with a MIDI to USB and the Camera Connection Kit?

It does already work that way.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

I'm loving having MIDI to code for on the iPad, its become an absolutely fantastic MIDI machine ..

I was almost about to start kicking myself cuz I just bought the iRig. But after looking at the price tag on this baby, I think I'm good.

Although I'm quite sure it's worth the $99, it's just too much

Yeah, that $99 price tag seems really high. I saw a page where someone hacked together their own iRig. I'll be trying that. $99 is way too much for what this thing does.

Hopefully there isn't anything about Garageband that requires the higher priced connector.

I already bought the terrible $40 iRig, and the usable $30 ampkit link... don't know if I'll give in to this one or not...

Probably when I buy an iPad3 or iPad4...

I'm considering getting an iRig, what is so terrible about it?

It sounds kind of like you're plugging your guitar straight into a DS-1 pedal, and your headphones directly into the output.

Get the ampkit link instead; it's usable, and $10 cheaper.

Ah I see, thanks for the heads up. I've looked into the AmpKit Link but for some reason no retailer is willing to ship it to Iceland.

I've been wondering about this product since it was casually shown in the iPad2 keynote speech. Here's the actual product page

I was wondering as well! :p

I'm waiting for the Alesis IO Dock for the ipad too: https://www.alesis.com/iodock.

I also want a camera connection kit and the Blue Yeti USB mic. Seriously, that thing looks awesome. If i had that and these other things, i would be done. That would be all.

Oh wow that thing looks awesome! That should work with the original rather than the iPad 2, correct?

1
MF_Kitten•

Well, it hasn't come out yet, so i assume they'll be reworking it or making it compatible with both. They probably made the first prototypes for the original just to show it in action, with the intention of manufacturing it for the ipad 2 once it drops.

Ah, so this is what Asteroid was supposed to be for.

I'd love to do this with my iPad as much as I love passing my guitar through my stereo system amp instead of my guitar amp.

If the sound quality is as good as they say it is, this looks awesome. This means I'll have one go-to connector for the iPhone and my Mac, and iPad if I get one.

Is it any different to one of the many existing guiatar>USB cables available (apart from requiring a male to female adapter to plugin to the ipad)?

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-guitar-audio-cable-300cm-length-36130 (just an example, not the one I have)

My one just plugs into the mac, and appears as a sound input available to garage band. You cam get midi ones and microphone ones too.

If this thing has a preamp in it then that would certainly make it much better than that cable. I can't find if it does or doesn't, though.

Anyone know if this has a preamp built in?
