Wow, everyone should watch this clip — Chris Simms basically delves into the private conversations he had with Shanahan about Aiyuk.
I enjoyed that yea
Listening to Simms explain what Shanahan likes in WRs makes me believe he leans more heavily on the route running than on the hands part.
Looking at you, Pettis.
Pettis was known for having hands like glue in college. No idea why he suddenly lost his ability to catch the football last year
His hands aren’t the problem. He probably had one bad drop last year, the TD against the Browns. His problem is that the second he gets touched he gets the jitters. It’s a mental block if you ask me. The day he overcomes his fear of getting hit, he’ll have better luck holding onto the ball.
I agree with you. He seems to have difficulty concentrating on the ball with incoming defenders, which results in him alligator-arming the ball to protect himself. His drop totals weren’t horrible, but the stat was pretty deflated by the number of catchable balls he didn’t fully commit himself to catching
Did he get lit up? I know here was hurt these last couple years but didn't know if he got hit and it's affecting his confidence.
Simms literally said Kyle likes receivers who can snatch the ball out of the air.
And before that, he went over how tedious Kyle is in scouting route running. I wasn't saying he didn't like strong hands. Just that his track record shows route running is clearly his priority trait in scouting WRs.
I'm not sure if I buy that. If that's the case, then he would have picked Jeudy.
I think for WRs, hands are the most important element. Jimmy G is always throwing into tight windows. If the receiver doesn't have good hands, there will be a lot of interceptions.
YAC is the most important thing for a WR. That's why he targeted Lamb, Aiyuk, Jennings and not Jeudy or Ruggs.
I loved what he said about receivers who snatch the ball out of the air while maintaining full speed. That’s my favorite thing about deebo. The speed and versatility of shanahans positionless offense is going to a thing of beauty this year.
This season is going to be a lot of fun.
Do the 9ers have two Anquan Boldin’s?????
Might be three if Jennings has anything to say about it. Four if Hurd is healthy. The most interesting competition at WR, to me, will be between Bourne and Taylor.
They can say all they want Aiyuk was neck and neck with Lamb as the two top receivers they wanted, but I don't believe them.
I've seen countless articles of the top receivers and Aiyuk was never in the top 5 and Lamb and Jeudy were well ahead of everyone as the top two in this class. They were neck and neck with each other and no one stood close except for Ruggs.
What happened is the 49ers valued the 3rd best DL ahead of Jeudy or Lamb and knew they still would get a good receiver later on in the draft. Only time will tell if they made the right move, I just can't see Jeudy or Lamb being busts.
Jeudy won't bust. Lamb ... I'm less sure.
I feel like Jeudy’s lack of physicality and him being more of a body-catcher could lead to a few problems in the NFL
I don't believe them if if they're saying Ruggs wasn't on the top of their WR board. It doesn't add up with the interest expressed.
They clearly had Kinlaw penciled in at 13 if he was there, and he was, so they went with plan A, which was to get a receiver around the mid to late 20's, maybe even day 2 if the board fell amazingly (it didn't).
Get you someone who loves you like Chris Simms loves the Kyle Shanahan
