Good. Don’t fuck this opportunity up.
Bingo!
I saw a bunch of people complaining about this, but the reality is if there's an outbreak in the garage the season is probably over
NASCAR fans complaining about a rule change? What’s new...
NASCAR fans complaining about:
Not being able to use the N-word
Not being able to go to the racetrack during a worldwide pandemic
Having teams that they are not affiliated with outside of their fandom follow rules that will help save lives and save the sport
I’m shocked...really.

Cool stereotypes...
There isn't any reason why fans shouldnt be allowed at the track tho. Nobody is forcing anyone to sit in the grandstands, and honestly, possibly catching Corona is completely worth it to get to the track.
Yeah man! Risking the lives of thousands is so worth seeing cars go brrrrrrrrrr around a track!!! I love seeing someone say they dont care about their or others older relatives or shit just other humans in general! Fuck them I wanna see car go zoom zoom !!! /s fucking moron. This is why it's going to be so much worse in USA than any country.
I can't wait for them to go back to normal.
looks at grandstands being empty on purpose
NASCAR IS DEAD!

Not only this season but next year as well.
This makes a lot of sense. The worst thing that could happen is if people got careless and started an outbreak.
In really glad that they are doing this.
Not only would an outbreak possibly re-postpone or end the season, but it will make us all look like absolute idiots and feed into every dumb red neck stereotype there is.
NASCAR still doesn't have a sponsor for the Darlington race....
Disagree......lots of care and precautions are being taken.
In the small chance that something happens, I think there are enough preventive measures being taken that it’s not gonna infect a bunch of people.......that’s why preventive measures and great precautions are being taken.
It’s not like NASCAR is being haphazard about this.
That’s exactly why I said an outbreak would be disastrous. If a few people end up sick then it probably wasn’t caused by the nascar situation - like you mentioned they are taking precautions. But if they are taking all these steps and there is still an outbreak? Nascar will look dumb and/or we will realize we are way further from back to normal as a society than we realized
Setting themselves up for this.
Can't wait for the fan to break into the race.
Edit - DARFs in denial I see. Enjoy your haircuts btw.
That’s rookie moves. I’m renting a blimp. Social distanced sports viewing.
Seems reasonable. Nascar's gonna be losing a hell of a lot more $ than these fines if someone gets covid-19.
In the event of a fine - maybe the money (or a portion) should go to a frontline worker fund or other types of charity that could use it.
Last I read, all fine revenue goes to the NASCAR Foundation. As much as they’ve been plugging them during the iRacing series, you’ll probably get your wish.
Does anyone even consider all the behind the scenes staff that must make contact with everything from food to janitorial? It's all about the money and to keep themselves from total bankruptcy and collapse, but the fans must watch it on the TV. NASCAR is a bad joke nowadays.
Normally I wouldn’t be for this. I haven’t been a fan of the overreach of many state governments and any fines or arrests of people doing things that I think they have a constitutional right to do, no matter how stupid it may be. However, Nascar is not a state government. They are a private company who has other private companies working with them. They have every right to make this move and I think it’s smart considering Nascar is the first major sport to come back and are determined to stay back. They have to make sure no one’s stupidity makes that not able to happen. I just hope they use common sense about it. I’m all for making them wear masks when they can’t be social distanced. But if someone is by themselves at least 6 feet away from anyone else and not wearing a mask, they don’t need to be fined for that. Nascar doesn’t need to be like the cops that saw the need to arrest a guy who was surfing in the ocean by themselves.
If that person has Coronavirus and doesn't show any signs yet, the last thing you want is them coughing all over the place and spreading it further.
It’s one thing if someone is coughing and getting their germs all over surfaces that others will come in contact with. But It’s a totally different thing if someone shows no signs of illness, isn’t coughing and isn’t anywhere near anyone else or any surfaces that are likely to be touched by someone else. A person in that second scenario doesn’t need to be forced to wear a mask or face a fine IMO.
The whole constitutional thing is all about your rights until they impede upon others rights. The constitution was never written to meant you have unlimited freedom or rights no matter what, and in a situation where your exercising of a right could cause harm, damage, or trampling of the rights of others, then it's not exactly an overreach to limit your rights in that situation. An example would be the Tragedy of the Commons. In some situations, letting each individual consume a "right" in unlimited fashion could lead to others losing ability to exercise their rights, such as actions that could result in the deaths of others.
You are right in your main point. I think the elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system should remain quarantined. High risk individuals should absolutely not be around people right now or anytime in the near future. But it's probably the young and healthy that are defying the orders and statistically, the virus doesn't hit the young and healthy very hard. Obviously there are exceptions to any rule but for the most part it's flu-like symptoms for most if those people even experience symptoms. Those young and healthy people need to go back to work if they feel comfortable doing so. So basically my argument is that people aren't causing great harm to others as those others as long as those others are also young people who are low risk. The evidence from antibody test are showing that far more people have it than we originally thought but the death rate remains the same. So that shows that the percentage of people who die from the virus is very low. Far less than 1%. Some are saying something like .1%. That makes this virus look a lot less deadly. Not exactly fair to say people are killing others by daring go out in public, unless of course someone knowingly has the virus and go out in public. That's a different thing entirely.
The elderly and immuno-compromised all have family and some require assistance. By going out and about the young and healthy are spreading it and making it likelier for it to come back home to those who are compromised.
This is like vaccines and herd immunity. It's not a personal choice. Most of everyone needs to participate or it doesn't work.
You lose those constitutional rights when it comes to risking the lives of others. People that want to open the government early, or are mad about the lock down are basically saying fuck other people and my family members if I wanna go outside and get a contagious and lethal disease I will! Same rules apply here, anyone complaining about not being able to go to the track, or that these rules are dumb are just basically saying fuck the health of others I wanna see cars go brrrrrrrrrr
You are right in your main point. I think the elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system should remain quarantined. If those younger and healthier people are asymptomatic they will spread it to others, also regardless of if you are hit hard by it or have a mild cough from it, it permanently damages your lungs and their capacity by up to 20%. Its incredibly selfish to want to put anyone at risk.
Not saying anybody should want to put anyone at risk. But we all accept risks everyday. We are all put at some risk by getting in a car and driving to work around others who are doing the same. We are put at risk by working around others at work, depending on what kind of work we do. Those co-workers could have a rare disease they caught while on vacation or they could be careless and back over you with a piece of heavy machinery they are operating. Just saying, if the risk of dying for those who get Covid-19 is like .1%, then how much risk is there? Most would say it's acceptable risk for being able to make a living and live normal life.
Even though this virus hasn’t been as bad as some say, NASCAR still has to pander and show they are taking this seriously. Props to them
The virus "hasn't been as bad as some say" because of government intervention (as in enforcing social distancing, required masks in public spaces, closing schools, bars, barbershops, just about anything that requires contact with someone else). Please understand just because the confirmed positive/death toll is currently lower than predicted, it does not mean this is not serious.
They have one shot at this. If they fuck it up the season is over.
You realize that even if you get it and your symptoms arent even that bad you lose around 5% - 20% lung capacity, so even if you are just coughing mildly with it, your future life is going to be hampered by the disease. Pretty sure it's worse than people are saying. Considering we have a third of the world's cases in USA alone some states with less populations than countries have more cases and whole countries.....
Uh, the virus is worse than what is presented by the media. My mother can't even pack her own lunch for work because of her position in the medical field. This is in NC, btw. This shit just started to "peak" and people wanna reopen everything at once. The governor of GA has already admitted it was a fuckup to allow a full reopening. I love NASCAR and I hope this Darlington race goes off without a hitch. I'm just disgusted by anyone who wants to downplay the risk factors of COVID-19.
Mark my words someone is going to contract this virus. The only question is if NASCAR sweeps it under the rug.

If a fine like that existed for regular public, even I would wear a mask.
You should wear one anyway
I only wear one if required by law or store policy.
Why?
You lose your man card if you wear a mask. John Wayne's ghost would haunt you by calling you a soy boy. /s
I just mentally can't take this whole thing anymore is why. I'm at a breaking point and if things don't become normal soon, I'm afraid of what I'll do. I've tried putting on one and it freaks me out, I panic and have to take it off immediately.

I won’t be surprised if the decision is unpopular, but I think this is really smart. NASCAR’s risking a lot by opening so early, so they need to enforce the new rules a bit more rigidly.
I agree, it’s a clear “we aren’t screwing around” when it comes to the safety measures.
