My baby daughter is due next month

I'm so petrified of passing this condition onto her. She was unplanned but lately this is all I can think of... The depression and limitations its caused me... I think ill probably kill myself if she gets it, I can't live with the guilt!

If she should really get it, she has an understanding parent at the same time who can help looking for treatments.

You made it to this day, why couldn't she? Think about all these people with very bad things you don't have, they would struggle to understand you. There's no way your demise would help her, if anything that would make her even more guilty of this condition.

I hear you, you’re not alone.

And I did pass this on to my son. But I talk openly with him about it. It’s not a secret or anything to be embarrassed about in our house. I asked him how he feels about it, and his reply was “it’s, whatever”. Made me look at it differently. I told him if it ever bothered him to let me know, and we’d explore all his options.

I made a safe space for him, you can do this with your daughter.

You got this!

As I grow older and dream of starting a family, the fear of passing hyperhidrosis to my children is something I think about a lot. I just try to remind myself that A) it might not happen, and B) if it does they will have me in their corner as someone who understands and won’t minimize the issue (my parents tried but never fully understood the crippling anxiety associated with HH, which made me feel shameful and alone sometimes. ). I also consider the treatment options that are available now compared to what I could find when I was growing up, and I believe that they will continue to improve in efficacy and safety. You can do this! Please take care of yourself and ask for help if you feel overwhelmed!

What are you doing to make sure she has a better life than you if she does get it?

There are petitions you can write. People you can protest against. Medications you can make cheaper. Medical devices you can make cheaper. There are many things you can do to make her life better than yours.

So if she has it you would think you ruined her life so you would actually ruin her life by letting her grow up without you and without a parent who can understand her difficulties with it.

Don’t worry. Even if you do pass it to her by that time I’m sure there will be cure for this. I wouldn’t worry about it so much honestly
