Much as this is positive for those of us of a non Tory persuasion. We're 5 years away from an election so it's good that Keir gets himself established in people's minds but much like any polls at the moment it means very little.

It's actually less than 4 years now. Although closer to 4 than 3.

I did realise that after I posted but though the sentiment still applied.

Does it still stay as may? I genuinely havent thought about it but does a December election not mess with the dates given the FTPA?

Scheduled for 2nd May 2024.

Well there more you know! Doesnt even seem that far away these days.

The fact that the last one was a December election doesn't really matter - it wasn't done with a repeal of the FTPA or in accordance to the FTPA. Kind of a loophole in between iirc.

The FTPA still stands, in other words and I think it mentions something like that the election takes place in May every 5 years and no more, so the fact that the last election was in December means that the next election will be the May before 5 years expires since the last election so May 2024.

IIRC FTPA is very likely to be repealed (The government wants it, there was a bill introduced in the Lords before the COVID19 stuff kicked off), that still would mean that an election would need to be called on or before the 2nd of May 2024, but opens the door to the Government calling early elections on pretty much the same basis as before FTPA. - See the text of the bill here: https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/lbill/58-01/086/5801086_en_2.html#l1g1

It's a nice move away from the "Labour aren't going to win the next GE" narrative.

Second approval poll today with Starmer ahead, albeit different parameters.

To give the full picture..

From what you have seen or heard to what extent do you approve or disapprove of how each of the following public figures are handling the outbreak of COVID-19?

Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty +38 (-2)

Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance +33 (-1)

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak +26 (-3)

Prime Minister, Boris Johnson +8 (-17)

Health Secretary, Matt Hancock +10 (-7)

Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer +9 (+2)

Think OP must have done a typo.

Surely in the after math of this there will be some come-uppance for Boris - be it an inquiry or what not.

Boris got a lot of sympathy because he was hospitalised with the virus but those sentiments will not last for long for first time Tory voters like myself.

Based on COVID19 handling. Not overall PM approval.

Besides Keir is doing fk all regarding "handling" the virus.

Totally disingenuous polls. Yet this reddit happily takes this as fact and dismissed the others saying the public approve of the Tories and support the Government.

Besides Keir is doing fk all regarding "handling" the virus.

He's holding the government to account. And doing that far better than the government are handling the crisis.

Keir is not handling it.

How can fucking morons say Kier is handling it better? He isn't handling it at all!

Shows how shit a job Boris is doing at moment if the guy doing "nothing" is seen as being better than him.

Is this your actual reaction? Are you new to UK politics? Hes the leader of the opposition, the approval is based on his performance in that roll. Hes acted calm, patient but also prodded and poked at where the government needs to do more.

The opposition leader always has the benefit of not taking the specific actions but that's normal and most people in the country know this and want the opposition leader to act in the capacity of their role.

If we follow your logic, all opposition leaders should be on negative polling figures permanently.
