There has been a lot of discussion recently about the quality of the email segments recently and the quality of the emails getting picked. To me and many others, one of the most consistently entertaining types of emails they used to do was the quizes, usually in an “X or Y” format, especially on the Beastcast. They took a break from these which was the right move as there were a lot if them, but now it’s been so long I don’t even remember when the last one was.

I think now is the time to bring them back. It would definitely help to make things more fun during the email sections. This also depends on the audience to send them in of course, but if they are there I’d love to see this kind of e

So while Moffat was running the show, which Moffat-written scripts were best/worst? For reference (specials that clearly fit with a series in brackets):

Series 5: The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below, The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone, The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang

Series 6: The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, A Good Man Goes to War, Let’s Kill Hitler, The Wedding of River Song

Series 7: Asylum of the Daleks, The Angels Take Manhattan, (The Snowmen), The Bells of Saint John, The Name of the Doctor

Series 8: Deep Breath, Listen, Dark Water/Death in Heaven, (Last Christmas), Co-wrote: Into the Dalek, Time Heist, The Caretaker

Series 9: The Magician’s Apprentice

I have been rewatching the new series with my girlfriend (first time watcher) and we just watched Time Heist last night. Watching it again, in very close proximity to Capaldi’s first three episodes in particular, has made me realise how delightful, and important, this episode actually is. The episode itself definitely fits the formula of a “regular” Doctor Who episode - there’s a problem in -place- and the Doctor and companion investigate, there’s a scary monster and some unique side characters, there’s no big arc importance and they save the day in the end. Plus lots of running down corridors. But the episode is both one of the best implementations of that formula, and very important for

This was inspired by the other post about a minimal viewing order, and as an exercise I was wondering which episodes of the new series can be skipped without losing either any story relevant to arcs or other episodes at all, or any critically acclaimed episodes. The idea is basically to find episodes that can be excised without meaningfully impacting the viewer’s experience. Here’s what I got:

Series 1

None

Series 2

The Idiot’s Lantern

Love and Monsters

Fear Her

Series 3

42... technically. This episode does contain relevant story arc information (that Martha’s mum is informing Saxon and it’s election day), but both of these get independently set up in The Lazarus
