When windows changes all 5 of your plex data drives to RAW :(

Pooling USB drives is a really good way to hate your data. Not anything you can do to bring back a failed pool.
If your chassis can't hold all the drives, get a SAS HBA and a drive enclosure. Or you can get a small NAS and mount to windows via iSCSI.
Controller error? IIRC I usually get this error at my workplace for people that mishandled their external USB drivers. A partition recovery should fix that, with a chkdsk command to see if anything was corrupted
Yeah looks like its a controller error on the USB or the drives,
I tried the chkdsk command first and got the following
C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk m: The type of the file system is NTFS. The first NTFS boot sector is unreadable or corrupt. Reading second NTFS boot sector instead. The first NTFS boot sector is unreadable or corrupt. Reading second NTFS boot sector instead. Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
Overall the system has been running reliable without any issues for 2+ years with minimal interaction but will look into rebuilding hardware.
Currently running a couple of partition scans to see if they give any results
Basically if you do a analyze scan with testdisk it will likely see the old partition scheme and if you can list files (capital P if i remember right) from the interface, save the partition map and then you'll be good. Usually works better than most things for fixing off partition issues.
Do a partition scan with testdisk, will likely fix it if you haven't done anything to write over whats there. https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
https://us.informatiweb.net/tutorials/it/windows/testdisk-recover-a-deleted-or-lost-partition.html quick google for a tutorial, looks mostly right
Thanks for that
I did try a test disk for windows on one of the drives without any success but I’m currently download a USB Live version to try.
Most file recovery softwares seem to detect 80 random partitions on the drives and file recovery has been mostly corrupted
Anyone got any tips to recover from this?
Was trailing M3 data recovery but its saying it will be a 9 hour scan. just for one drive
I've had a similar thing happen on ubuntu. I believe showing up as raw, in windows, means it has lost its file system tye information. In my case I essentially had to recover the filesystem information. Which ended up just being a single command. I'd Google partition recovery or recover raw file system for windows. Might be able to find something and hopefully it's as easy of a fix as mine was
Was it windows that changed it or you through using windows? Blaming a software for something you did (maybe due to lack of knowledge) is pretty ignorant.
Try to recover your data by scanning through some data recovery tools. It might take you a week to run the scans but if there was something valuable to you on the disks then it’s worth it, otherwise just format it and start over.
I haven’t touched anything on the server for over a week as it mostly runs by itself.
I logged in because plex started showing unavailable files and discovered all the drives showing RAW
Maybe it wasn’t you but I’m telling you it wasn’t an operating system deciding it by itself either.
Check who have accessed the computer other than you. Good luck.
No one else has access and I have checked security logs just to be sure.
Its possible its related to DrivePool since all these drives were in a pool.
How are your drives connected?
Looks like someone else has some similar issues with usb drives
What kind of pool did you make?
You might have set it with no redundancy and then a drive lost it's connection.
