[San Jose Sharks] Owner Hasso Plattner: "There is no room for racism in society. We applaud Evander for his rational and thoughtful response to the recent terrible tragedy. Events like this occur way too often. We all must find a way to do better."

This is a really thoughtful response that both takes a stand against racism and backs up an employee. Nicely done.
Gotta feel good for Evander to be so outspoken and then the man who signs his paychecks weighs in having his back in the most public way possible.
Those Sharks haters got it all wrong.
I hope he stays with us until retirement and takes a job with the team.
I'm so happy he found a home.
There were so many rumours about him here in Winnipeg and I felt badly for him. I'm not sure how much of it is true, if any, but I always thought he was a decent guy that got the shit stick in a new city.
I love the player off the ice I've just questioned some of his actions on. He's vocal and passionate, which is something the sport needs more of. There's a lot of young hockey players that will look up to him for years. The amount of racist shit that used to be spewed around the lockerooms I was in was disgusting. I'll admit I've been a bystander before. With people being vocal hopefully hockey can continue to become a more diverse sport. There's a lot of great athletes that this league has probably missed out on.
Hell, even if he leaves that doesn't mean he can't come back after he retires. Joel Ward has made San Jose his permanent home and has been pretty clear that he wants to work for the Sharks in some capacity and Devon Setoguchi works for the broadcasting team. The organization clearly is welcoming to and supportive of players of color and I'm really fucking happy about that.
Nah I hate the sharks for hockey reasons though

I thought this was a hockey subreddit??
Not the time, bud.
But r/hockey told me that it's super hard for you to say something condemning racism. How will this be twisted? (Hint: it won't be)
In my personal life, I struggled with whether it made sense to say something about all this racist shit happening because I'm white and I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to prioritize my voice over the voices of people of color. Maybe some of the players feel this way too. But reading statements like the Sharks owner's and Brian Boyle's is making me reconsider my view.
You should. Add your voice. It doesn’t silence anyone. If you get feedback, consider it and maybe you’ll change what you say after that. But you should never feel the need to completely abstain from a conversation.
Your voice as a white person is important because you’re showing POC that you are an ally. They feel that they aren’t alone in their fight. Research shows that white people are more likely to listen to a message from a minority group if allies from the majority group are corroborating it. Please do speak up.
My default setting on things like this is to call it out when I see white people being racist. That's my lane as a white person who is trying hard to be an ally, that and retweeting black voices and resources for other white people to educate themselves.
The fundamental rules as I see them are don't talk over black voices, listen when they tell you something, and try to support and magnify their voices whenever possible. That and donating money if you can are huge.
Bro, I beat cancer, and I can say with certainty that it was nothing compared to the courage it took for me (as a straight, white man) to say "Racism IS NOT acceptable" on Twitter.

Yeah, strangely enough, now's not the time for sarcasm on Reddit.
Plattner seems like an awesome owner. He writes the checks, but you never hear his name because he stays out of the way.
