That's great and all but what are you guys actually doing besides making a public statement? Can you please share the organizations in LA that you are supporting or partnering with to end racism in LA or the NHL? It would be go to know my Kings commit to more than words on this.

This is why athletes don't want to say anything lmao. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

99
uncle_batman•

I mean, this isn't just an individual player. I appreciate the thought behind the tweet, but the Kings organization is worth $850 million (according to google), and they should be willing to put their money where their mouth is.

79
Maxpowr9:NHL-BOS1: BOS - NHL•

And unfortunately as a Bruins fan, I don't expect anything nicely said from Jeremy Jacobs.

28
PracticalChamp•

Is your team doing anything? Also, by this standard, any musician/athlete/team/brand that you like that has spoken out recently and not put any money up, keep the same energy towards them. If not, you’re just blindly singling out the Kings while sitting at home on Reddit hating.

Edit: Funny... downvotes but nobody has explained to me how I’m wrong yet.

The worst is big corporations moralizing and posturing. "We stand with our black brothers and sisters. Coca-cola. The soda of justice."

63
UltraChicken_:NHL-PHI4: PHI - NHL•

The gall of coke to claim that when its clear that PEPSI is the soda of justice and police accountability.

39

I remember that ad but everyone seemingly forgot about it because it was literally in the same week as United dragging a doctor off a flight and Sean Spicer getting history horrifically wrong.

LA kings have a standing contract with the LAPD who is out there now attacking protesters. There are some immediate things they could do to show where they stand.

37
MyHorseIsDead:NHL-VAN3: VAN - NHL•

Would that contract not be for a presence at hockey games? Serious question; what other option do they have? A PMC?

14
Viper_ACR:NHL-NJD1: NJD - NHL•

I'd be curious if they could legit hire PMCs.... I know University of Minnesota actually terminated its relationship with the Minneapolis Police Department for the most part, but they already have a University police department so they've got some LE presence regardless.

7
vedicardi•

do you know what security guards are?

-13
MyHorseIsDead:NHL-VAN3: VAN - NHL•

Thank you for your derisive reply. Great start to a conversation.

Security guards and armed law officers are a different class of response and prevention. They’re two very different scenarios.

15
spaghettiAstar:NHL-LAK1: LAK - NHL•

Every professional team has a standing contract with their local law enforcement.

the LAPD who is out there now attacking protesters

I dunno man, lots of the video's I see show these "protesters" starting fires, looting, attacking police cars and police, beating the shit out of innocent people.

Quit playing the victim card. If you go out rioting and are committing violence you probably deserve to get beat. Virtue signalling dumbass.

nice buzzword stay woke bud

9
[deleted]•

Pretty ironic statement from you bud

1
[deleted]•

Nah, you can't say that these days. All the protesters are angels and all the police are evil.

5†
Grahamshabam:NHL-COL1: COL - NHL•

i mean, the change that needs to occur is police need to stop killing black people. and the only people that can stop the police from killing black people are the police

there isn’t any organization you can donate to, it’s on the police to change, or for governments to gut police departments that don’t change

that said if you’re an athlete and you’re worried about getting comments like that in return you’re a coward. people only ask for shit like that because they want to discredit the people speaking out, not because they actually give a shit about the issues

7
chandlerbing_stats:ACHA-UniversityOfMichiga: University Of Michigan - ACHA•

The ppl that ask these questions are ones that want to undermine the positive messages. They’ll say stuff like “I care but I only want to see hockey stuff”

Like what? How do u care then? Maybe these hockey players care and they want to share their feelings. As a fan I enjoy listening to what players have to say about topics outside of their respective sport too

1

I'd love to hear the thoughts of LA Kings owners Philip Anschutz and Ed Roski. Surely with all the political contributions they throw around they'd be willing to donate to civil rights groups and candidates committed to positive police reform. We can all pat ourselves on the backs for saying that racism is bad, but maybe we should back that up with action.

You guys realize this is barely scratching the surface on making a change right? Glad to hear voices at all in this community as there has certainly been a dearth in the past. But this is not doing enough. Get your ass into the streets and get them wallets out because this shit is not ending from words alone.

not a fan of LA’s “senseless violence” comment. way to victim blame..

I think in context that's referring to police brutality, not riots, it came right after 'Enough Racism.'

they said “raise the volume peacefully” which also seems like a criticism on the way the the black community is carrying out these protests.

It would be interesting to see what kinds of initiatives different teams do in their community engagement. I don't know anything on the West Coast, do the Kings do community building stuff or do they just donate to the police union fund?
