How exactly does rng work?

Question

So I had an abyssal demon slayer task and just received a b2b abyssal whip drop. Concerned my rng is now gone for the foreseeable future.

Pick a number between 1 and 10

If a drop is say 1/120 every time you get a kill you roll a fkin huge dice and if you so happen to land on the correct number congrats you get it

It's random every time. It's like flipping heads twice in a row. Less likely than flipping heads once, but it's possible.

All events are independent. One whip drop does not affect another whip drop, or any other RNG anywhere else

Each drop is i.i.d

As others have said, all drops are independent of the other drops. That just means if you have a 1/512 chance of getting a whip on kill 1, then you have a 1/512 of getting it on kill 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. Getting it on kill 1 doesn't change the chance of getting it again. Contrary to popular belief, your luck doesn't just even out over time either. Getting really lucky early doesn't mean you'll be really unlucky later. They aren't related to each other.

People saying "Rip RNG" is just an exaggeration, getting insane drops won't at all effect your RNG, hell you could get 3 b2b abyssal whips and then get 2 ranger boots from a clue. Like others said RNG is just like rolling a dice.

It either works or it doesnt

Assuming you have a small kc, you can assume that your RNG follows a binomial distribution. Each drop is independent of the other; so having back to back drops is rare but not impossible.

It’s always a binomial distribution. Doesn’t matter if you’re low KC or high.

Large enough kc it becomes poissonn

Poissonn is used for continuous events - binomial is for discrete events.

Drops are discrete events as we can describe p(drop) as a number, rather than an equation and p(drop) is never 0

It's 50/50. You either get it or you don't.

Uhh, whip is 1/512. If it was 50/50, you would kill 100 demons and average 50 whips.
