Comcast charges me $24.96 extra for being a long term customer.

I had to call Comcast today to have the remove HBO from my bill. This is now the second time I have noticed it still on bill, despite my requests to have it removed. While looking at the rest of my bill I saw I pay $44.95 for 12 Mbps up and 3 Mbps down. The Comcast home page offers this same speed for $19.99 for the first 6 months for new customers.

Then it goes to $34.99 for months 7-12 before settling on a final price "from $42.95 to $60.95, and may vary depending on your area and other Comcast services (if any) received."

Why the fuck do I get punished for being a long term customer?

I used to routinely cancel and sign up again in a roommate's name, then switch to another roommate, then back to my name, etc., to always have the good rate. However, these days I live alone so that is not an option and DSL where I am at is painfully slow.

And don't get me started on "fees".

That is one of many benefits of having a cable monopoly in your town

I have always thought the same as to how they expect to keep long term customers. It just baffles me, although I wonder how you were able to go back to having the account under your name again without being charged the more expensive rate. I've heard that if you call and complain a little you can talk them down to the normal price. Who knows though..

The key is to have enough roommates to make it a long enough time between each persons name. If you have 3 roommates it's a year before you sign up for the 6 month introductory rate again and by then you are a "new customer" again. I am still amazed it worked all the times it did. You would think they would still have you on record for that address. Maybe they don't check records 2 people back?

Oh, and when you cancel you HAVE to lie and say you are moving out. They obviously don't do it if you say you are just putting it in a roommates name.

I tried complaining.. Didn't help me :(

Very good to know, thanks a ton for the info. Sorry complaining didn't help.

Comcast apparently has a policy that you are entitled to a promotional rate for six months once per year. I've gotten it out of them before and just haven't gotten around to trying it a second time yet.

Call them, threaten to cancel, and demand the best offer available. If that doesn't work, be polite but firm and demand a better deal. You'll eventually get the deal you seek (or something close to it).
