Buying a mask for airbrushing during Covid

I'm contemplating buying an airbrush, but I'd need to buy a mask. I'm a bit concerned that it would be the same kind that healthcare workers use - I wouldn't want to make it harder for anyone who needs a mask to get one.

Can anyone recommend a mask that would work against airbrush droplets, but isn't in demand by healthcare workers?

A painting booth is a good option, and the 3m particle masks are also good for painting

Even with a painting booth I think a mask is a good idea. With my booth running if I don't wear my mask properly I can taste the acrylic paint, and at that point I might as well not have worn a mask at all.

if you have a booth running and you still taste it through the mask..... you need a different mask, because you are not being protected

that... that is what I said?

My point is despite the booth if I don't wear a mask properly I still taste acrylic so don't assume a booth is enough. I feel like I already said this but sorry if it wasn't clear.

sure but that might also mean you have a faulty booth just fyi

You want a painters half face respirator. They look completely different to the surgical masks I see medical workers wear. As long you are buying from a hardware shop I don't see a problem. If hospitals needed that type of mask they would have bought out the supply at the hardware place a long time ago.

I got a painting respirator at home depot pre-covid. I use it along with the hood and it works great. Even though it has filters, I have not seen any healthcare workers use this type of respirator.

Should, in these times, be able to get masks easily from a pharmacist (in the uk) , not sure where you are from but doesn’t seem to be any supply issues where I am , worst case scenario I’ll send you one pal :)

Haha, thanks for the thought. I've got plenty of standard masks - but it's the respirator (which I understand is recommended for airbrushing) I'm worried about.

Shit maybe I should get one , bought a cheap airbrush recently , only used it once and didn’t even contemplate the fumes , ooops

Well, glad you found out from my post, I guess!

Is it the paint thinner that is dangerous ?
