Question from a non-American. I keep hearing that literally none of you guys use cash nowadays. I know that's exaggerated, but what DO you actually use cash on?
I use cash for literally everything. I don’t trust the banking system and keep 5$ in my bank account.
Small towns love cash. There’s a shitload of small farmer towns.
Weed man doesn't take discover
How about the apothecaries?
Dispensaries? Yes they do
The service industry runs on cash.
Like, fast food etc?
More like sit down resteraunts. Most resteraunts play their servers/bartenders in cash.
Honestly: quarters for laundry. That’s it.
"Cashless" isn't a real thing. Even if a government mandated that onto a society, people would still barter and trade with things. An alternate currency would arise. If anything, it would increase grey market dealings. Of course, maybe that's a good thing...
The chances are pretty high, but it wouldn't be an overnight change. Remember when we started doing the chip cards like most countries were already using? Its gonna be a slow transition, and the pandemic only plays a small role in the grand scheme of it. That's not saying covid is fake or a government conspiracy, but businesses have started going cashless because of it, and the habit of using a card will likely stay in place for younger people. And it won't be a card forever either! Apple and Samsung pay already exist, and people do use them. It's not perfected yet, but nothing really is. The possibilities range from basically just the pay with your phone, to full blown cyberpunk dystopia, all the way down to the barcode tattoos in Idiocracy.
It might take a lot longer than you think, but it's an inevitability in an increasingly digital world.
Hell no. We still use paper cheques for some things and nobody else does. How do you think we will get off of cash?
Trust me I don’t want that to happen at all but places by me are going cashless because of “Covid”
How is it not a real thing. If we go into “trading things” then that would be cashless. And multiple places in my hometown are going cashless because of covid

I think it will happen. COVID is a good excuse, but tax evasion and illegal activity are real driving factors. If all transactions are electronic, they can all be tracked and taxed.
Lots of migrant workers are paid cash. Take that away and they can't work without proper documentation anymore.
Hard to have a drug deal if you can't roll up with your bag of cash but have to CashApp instead. Takes anonymity out of it. (That's why you see some crazy stuff on Amazon for ridiculous prices from third-party vendors....it's being used to launder money.)
And tips. I know, you report all your tips to the IRS, but a lot of folks don't.
It will happen, because the government knows if it can control commerce, it can control you.
0%, not for a while anyway.
Places by me are doing it by me bc of “Covid”
Unlikely
because how else will people know I’m balling the fuck out if I can’t walk around with fat stacks of money?
