Looks like a Green June Beetle, a type of Scarab. Example pic here. The larvae feed on roots.

Thanks!!

I'm in my 50s and have seen brown junebugs but never green. The greenies are apparently common in the south. So them spreading north is attributable to global warming I'll wager.

Junebug is just a nickname its not an actual species. The Beetles that people call June bugs are typically different species of scarab beetles such as masked chafers, Asiatic garden beetles ,May beetles, rain Beetles ,cockchafers, etc all labeled as June bugs simply because people don't know the actual name of these beetle species

Central PA. ~1 1\2" length. New bug to me, and I'm not young. June bug with a metallic green paint job? Garden friend or foe?
