Snow near CHCH? Lake Lyndon?

Hi all, North Islander looking to drag the wee ones out to the snow for a few hours and not quite sure how read the weather/snow forecasts for non-ski-field areas.

Does anyone know if there is accessible snow near Lake Lyndon at the moment, or where the best shot is within an hour or two drive from Christchurch?

Not at the moment, it's been very warm of late. That said, there is meant to be some crappy weather coming Friday/Saturday, and could bring inland snow with it. Check out Canterbury Snow and Weather Watch on Facebook, they are far more liberal (for lack of a better term) in their forecasts, saying what could come even if it doesn't, whereas Metservice is a lot more conservative leaning towards accuracy over what could happen.

Always check out the webcams from Arthurs pass, castle hill etc.

They'll show you how close it is to the ground. Looks like its way up the hill, so no change of anything easily accessible.

Is Mt Hutt still open,. likely your best bet, getting up one of the skifields.
