Tux w/ Long Tie Waistcovering

I'm being dressed in a tuxedo with a long tie against my will, but have been asked to influence the vest/waistcoat/cummerbund decision.

Personally, I find a high vest with a tuxedo to be an atrocity, so that's not happening if they're actually going to act on my opinion. I can't find enough pictures of tuxes with long ties to find a good comparison between the 'bund and waistcoat (or very very low cut vest).

Thoughts?

ugh, mostly uncovered waists.

with seemingly no precedents, we will blaze our own trail.

Cummerbund + long tie would look absurd. You're basically wearing a tux like it was a suit with weird lapels, think "dressed down". And since you've already vetoed the "high vest" option, sounds like the lower version is what you need.

Also, what line are you drawing between "waistcoat" and "vest?" I was under the impression that the terms were interchangeable. Pics?
