Just a thought

Here's something I was thinking. What if instead of suing a specific dispo a group of patients sued the doh for creating an inefficient system that puts as at risk for mold, supply shortages, and/or the fact that the implementation of the amendment was not true to what we thought we were voting for? Similar to florigrown but from patients who are effected by this system vs the licensing side? Just thinking out loud here. Im not a lawyer so im open to critique.

As someone who has worked in a grow in a legal state I can assure you the more plants a facility has to grow at once the harder it gets to control the environment thus a higher risk for mold and contaminants. Often grows in Floridas VI system can be 400,000 plants or more in a facility. Thats nuts and despite my experience I couldn't do much better then the current mmtcs are doing. It's just not a feasible system in our climate.

Yes all states have mold problems occasionally but this is a consistent pattern of all dispensaries putting out unsafe product to potentially vulnerable people. Not ok.

My solution is to dissolve VI and allow for many more licenses and allow homegrow which will in turn reduce the pressure on the mmtcs to supply our huge population. This will reduce the size of each individual mmtc grow and allow for better quality control.

This is the only way I ever see us getting out of the rut our mmj program is in.

Edit: to reflect that there may not be a minimum number of plants in these grows

I’m here for it. I don’t even smoke flower however I am disappointed in all the mold complaints I have been seeing lately. We aren’t just using cannabis for shit and giggles this is OUR medicine. We pay a pretty penny to even be able to use cannabis legally so there should be better oversight with our products.

digmachine•

This affects everyone whether they smoke flower or not. All of the products in the program are made from the flower grown here.

DatPakJangers•

Yeah but edibles and distillate are unaffected by mold.

-2
CadeersOP•

Thats debatable

2
DatPakJangers•

How so? Distillate leaves behind everything but the isolated THC. Mold spores can’t vaporize and then condensate via distillation. The molds present in common flower are only harmful when combusted, they are fine to be eaten especially since decarbing cooks them. Of course I’m just repeating armchair bro science that I’ve heard over the years so if you think I’m wrong and you have evidence/links then please let me know and I’ll check them out. Peace!

Oklahoma started after us and they've got Mom & Pops putting out fire at affordable prices without this VI shit. Plus, they do recalls on bad batches of medicine!

Im so jealous. Without VI this could be us!

End Vertically Integrated Dispensaries!

8
Dabsworth-•

Or just allow them not to be vertically integrated if they choose not to do business that way.

3
CapinNuke•

Well... Yeah. I mean Im not saying don’t allow it. Its only strictly VI right now. Which blows.

Check this shit out from Oklahoma's Medical Marijuana system that got started 2 years after ours and has fire available at affordable prices from mom n' pop growers. They also do recalls on bad batches of medicine.

I go to 918 Buds 2 on 21st and memorial for my flower. Everything is $100/half and $200/oz. They have a strain on they day for $80/half and $150/oz. I typically go on Saturdays because all flower is $80/half and $150/oz, they open at 8 everyday. They also have pretty decent deals on certain edibles. Can't forget the taxes are already included in their prices.

Oklahoma has a way better MMJ system than Florida.

Companies made millions selling dispensary licenses here and they never planted a single fucking seed. Our MMJ system here is a scam set up to quarantine profits for the wealthy and well-connected.

Oh, and BTW, they can legally grow their own medicine in Oklahoma and yet somehow these mom & pops can still stay in business selling fire ass weed at affordable prices. Stop believing the politicians' lies!

Here is the Weekly Deals thread:

Looks like there is a sale on clones if they want to grow their own at home!

Voting out the corrupt republican legislators who consistently work against the interest of voters would be a start.

CadeersOP•

Great longterm plan but im not trying to wait 8 years to be able to get safe meds.

LebrianJ:Smoking: blood type: THC•

2 years until gubernatorial election. We have state attorney and public defender coming next Tuesday in Broward. Early voting has already started. Get out and vote!

3
CadeersOP•

Of course im voting. Im just saying it will take multiple elections cycles to get enough pro cannabis politicians to actually make a difference.

1
digmachine•

Plus we have to assume it'll never happen. FL famously has one of the worst legislatures in the country. It's not likely to change dramatically any time soon. Supreme Court challenges might be our only real hope to change things (like how we got access to whole flower).

Very true.

It's definitely a better path to force the regulation than to sue individual providers. The risks and possible rewards are considerably higher.

retroslik•

At one point the Patients and Producers Alliance (PAPA) had suit moving forward to directly challenge VI, license fees and restrictions as well as other patient friendly issues. I’m not sure of the standing of that case.

Are you sure they can have 400,000 plants? I questioned TL one time about why they had so many stores if they couldn't supply them all with product and this is what they replied to me with I'm not sure if it's bullshit or not:

"We saw your comment and wanted to reach out and help. We are regulated by the state regarding the amount of medicine we can grow and produce based on the number of MMJ patients we have. Each location allows us to expand our growing facilities and product pipeline to meet the demand and, more importantly, the needs of the patients. We're sincerely focused on accessibility to relief and daily availability will continue to improve at all locations. We look forward to what’s to come and offering more variety and accessibility for our patients to find relief. If you have any suggestions or further questions, please let us know. We are happy to help when we can."

Edit if this is the truth, one plant only has a few stores so they shouldn't be able to grow as much legally as TL and therefore should have an easier time controlling the mold?

4
Shreedac•

Do the math, look up the sales and reporting numbers and divide these results by the number of grow facilities the mmtc owns. Obviously this will be a rough estimate but some of these facilities have to be approaching a million plants, its crazy. I like how op said it. This system is not feasible in Florida.

3
CadeersOP•

Im looking for the source right now(I'm at work) but yes it was actually the industry scientist who used to be here plantsoffdanceoff who told a user on here awhile back there is no maximum number of plants in a grow, the only regulation is actually a minimum number of plants per facility. He cited the law with it too.

2
[deleted]•

I always wondered how that guy got the verified industry scientist thing next to his name... Like does he have a college degree or is he just some minimum wage lab worker that tricked a mod into thinking he's a scientist? Color me skeptical...

3
CadeersOP•

He said he was a biologist and he worked for muv. Wouldn't be surprised if it was just a grift though

3
That-levels-guy•

You do realize he had to show ID and proof of employment to the mods to get that flair right?

3
FloridaMMJInfoModerator:Weed_Leaf:•

He did, they both did actually.

2
FloridaMMJInfoModerator:Weed_Leaf:•

You don’t believe that me?, that’s ok.

3
[deleted]•

I'm sorry dude it's nothing personal, I don't believe anybody I'm a very skeptical individual... The comments that I've seen that guy make he doesn't strike me as a "scientist"

1
jomamadallamaheavily Medicated:fully_medicated5:•

It's a total lie. That isn't a requirement. There also was a limit on the amount of licenses but that went away once we passed a patient threshold.

1
CadeersOP•

Dang I'll admit I thought dude was legit so i took it as fact. I'll see if I can find anything in the law's later when i get more time. Either way I feel my points still stand.

1
jomamadallamaheavily Medicated:fully_medicated5:•

i've reviewed that whole marijuana statute decently well. it's so vague. it doesn't address SO many things so the dispensaries can just run amuck with it.

1
ASEFbeBLEEZY:Smoking:•

Couldn't agree more! VI sounds really good on paper, but in reality, it is only good if it is feasible! Its like when produce is locally grown, its awesome when you are buying fresh tomatoes that were grown in your community. However, if those tomatoes were grown in unsavory conditions, perhaps the tomatoes from a different state are of higher quality.

3
We3dmanreturns•

VI is bad because it’s anti-competitive and keeps prices artificially inflated. It’s not in patients’ interest and only benefits powerful corporations.

If VI were a good system 1P would have been pushed out of business by companies with better and safer products.

5
AzraelAoD1•

Agreed

1
Tilde88•

This would lead to the end of the medical marijuana program in Florida. Not reform as you would hope.

0
CadeersOP•

That seems hyperbolic. I doubt they can do that, its in the Florida constitution at this point, they can't just take it back.

2
Tilde88•

Hope VI goes away for sure

Sooner then you may think!
