[Update] Back from Hell
Wow. What a week. Soon after I posted here last week, our mountains quite literally exploded. By the end of Sunday, 10,000 people, including my family and I, had been evacuated. I've been through a lot of things in my life, but I doubt anything will ever compare to the feeling of running from that raging monster fire.
Most of us are back in our homes, save for the unfortunate ones who lost theirs. Everything is a mess, but I am infinitely grateful that my family is safe and we still have our home. The fire isn't out yet - we're still on alert - but it is getting closer to contained everyday. As long as these winds stay low, I think they'll have it done soon. The firefighters and law enforcement in the area have been nothing less than heroes throughout.
And then there is my keto! I did my best to stick to it. Though I wasn't always successful, I think I did a pretty good job. On the night we evacuated, I had a couple of beers. Was able to stay away from sugar though, and my calorie count was really low throughout evacuation. Just wasn't all that hungry.
I wondered how the stress would affect my weight loss. It was interesting. I'd been having trouble keeping from weighing myself up to that point, but without a scale, it was easy! LOL Instead, I noticed that my formerly snug jeans were nearly falling off of me. When we finally got home and I weighed myself, I expected at least a five pound loss. Instead, I had a slight gain! Crazy.
At first I was discouraged, but then I hiked my pants up again and rethought the situation. Who knows where that weight came from, but it wasn't fat gain. My pants could testify. And when I looked in the mirror, there were curves where bulges used to be. So I've taken the attitude of "who cares what the scales say" and I'm looking to more reliable evidence of progress. Not to say I'll mind when the scales reflect, but I think this experience might have helped me to kick the "scale habit" a little bit. Also, when I got back, I saw a post here where someone said that this is a lifestyle and even a tiny bit of progress is progress. That helped. (I really love this place.)
Our first night home (Wednesday) we had an all-out cheat meal at a Mexican place. I actually didn't go crazy with the meal, but I did have some margaritas and dessert. They made me very sleepy, and weren't as tasty as I remembered. Then yesterday, it was back to keto. (Left over chimichanga with the tortilla removed. Yummmmmm!) Now that we're home, this is much easier, and that cheat meal left me not caring when I get my next one.
Maybe I'm simple for thinking this is a plus, but there are something like eight pages of blue (new) posts here for me to explore today. Woohoo! I've already printed out what looks to be a delicious meatloaf recipe. Can't wait to see what else you all have discovered this week.
I hope you all have a great Friday. Take a look around and appreciate all you have - including the normalcy in your life. It's a beautiful thing!

OH MY GODS!
I'm glad you are okay and that your family is safe too. SHEESH!
Way to go on those jeans getting looser!
And now I feel completely ok with my week this week. I have NOTHING to be upset about. Thanks for the reality check!
Thank you. And ditto on the change of perception. I'm finding I don't have the same patience for friends' Facebook posts about how depressed they are that their favorite show is starting late next season, etc. Whatever.
Husband is on the way to the grocery store to pick up some veggies and other things that didn't survive the week alone in the fridge. Then I think I will have some bacon-wrapped jalepenos for lunch. Mmmmm... oh yeah!
