How it feels coming here after years of defending CIG

What made you finally turn? For me it was the 30ks and their piss poor excuse as to why they happen and won't prioritize fixing before bloating more features in the game that will cause more 30ks
Well, I'm not exactly sure. It was mostly a long, complicated experience. I never really knew about Chris Roberts or his other games. I grew up on the XWvsTIE franchise and other flight sims, and mostly became interested in it because of Elite, which I no longer enjoy for other reasons.
I pledged roughly in early 2015 and was actually enjoying the Mustang Delta meta in Arena Commander at the time when you could swap out the rocket pods for another fixed size 2 and was actively playing even though performance was terrible. That was the honeymoon period.
Then comes the Star Marine debacle, and I started to become somewhat skeptical of the way they started behaving overall, only for those worries to be mostly quelled with the release of 2.0 and the PU late 2015.
I was mostly ok with development although not testing the Alpha much due to stability, I was awaiting the Answer the Call, and figured it was nigh. CitizenCons 2016-2017 reignited my hopes for what the game really was going to be, as I could really start to see the clear overall direction they were going.
Followed up by late 2017 and the release of moons in the PU and although clutching to the hopes that graphical and server performance would improve "soon", I was still in awe at how beautiful they were compared to Elite's plastic planets.
Then came 2018 and things started to not feel right, again. I never really cared much for S42, but there was obviously something incredibly flawed. Everything development-wise seemed to continue to slow down, and although communication content was mostly still there, it was waning and becoming mostly fluff and filler.
Then communications got less and less, and overall value of the content was mostly useless. Development seemed to still be slowing. Nothing was getting much better, but hey it's Alpha.
2019 to present has mostly been just becoming more and more salty. Chris is seemingly hiding from us. Jared feels like he's trolling us. Communication is MIA. The game got a prison and that's about it. The game is more "functional" than it ever has been, but that's not saying a whole lot, and is still such a shell of what it's supposed to be.
Like I said, I don't give many fucks about S42, and at this point I just want it done so resources can at least go back to SC's PU. I pledged for Star Citizen, not an interactive movie that will probably be less than what we hope it to be. I own the Wing Commander movie. It's terrible.
I just feel like I have no where to go right now. After thousands of hours Elite blows, and thousands of days later Star Citizen still isn't a game. Sure, I'm looking forward to Star Wars Squadrons, but it's shallow, but at least a solid MVP for what it is and how much it costs.
That said, I'd still rather have Star Citizen - but I can no longer see a reasonable timespan that it will release in. And to be as fair as I can, I don't think CIG expected it to take this long, either.
And after answering the same questions on the sub from so many fresh faces, and growing so increibly bored at being a help desk for a game I can't even play, I'm just so burnt out. Especially not being able to say much of anything negative about the game without having to argue with someone that never leaves the sub for hours on end and is basically just as bored as I am.
So in the end I'd rather be here. At least it's not illegal to laugh at how fucking bizarre this game is.
Microsoft Flight sim2020 launches TOMORROW!
It is actually an MMO (thousands of players on one shard). The game will last the test of time, there is almost 5000 people online at any one time on their last game (MSFSX) and it came out waaaaaaaay back.
The only 2 games I got more hyped for than SQ42/SC is that and cyberpunk2077
I don't think CIG expected it to take this long, either.
Thing is, if they were halfway comptent (or honest - with themselves, with backers) they would have known.
Remember when Chris absolved himself of being a bad judge of time? It amazes me people didn't walk out en masse from the project at that time. You can't absolve yourself of years of telling people the game is close to release when it isn't.
For years, if you posted on the SC sub that the game wouldn't be released in the next X years you'd be called a troll and a FUDster. They would get upvoted while you would get down voted. And yet, history has shown it to be true.
Right back at the start, with the scope of the kickstarter, it was clear to even a junior dev there was no way they could build the BDSSE in 2-3 years (even though they lied their asses off and pretended that the kickstarter demo was actually something they had developed and was actual working gameplay).
As they added scope, CR maintained more funding would enable them to deliver things quicker so extra features would not be delayed. By the end of the stretch goals it was clear that they had added many years of development to the game, but CIG maintained the illusion that things were still coming soon.
When they added fully landable planets in 2016, it was clear they had just added perhaps another decade of development time or more. But CIG maintained everything was coming together, just waiting on pipelines, and things would be ready soon.
And on it goes, with the addition of things like base building/land claims, big ships with functions that still don't exist, the scope just grew and grew, addding more years until they could even release a MVP, let alone actually deliver on most of their promises.
And CIG still try and pretend things are just around the corner, the next magical tech will bring it all together.
And hardcore backers continue to believe it and adjust their expectations with every year that passes to excuse CIG for years of misleading them.
If CIG had been brutally honest about how long things would take from the start, i very much doubt they would have raised even a tenth of what they did. People would have said in 2012 no way are they waiting 10 years for that. In 2014 they would have said no way are they waiting 15 years for it. In 2016 they would have said no way are they waiting 20 years for it.
Instead they dangled the carrot in front of the proverbial donkey, each day getting them to pledge a little bit more while accepting more and more delays.
Chris is a huge piece of shit. Every dev in there is telling him it will take 20 years to get done on this engine and he says noop 2014
I agree with literally everything you listed here. I also played Elite Dangerous before I get burned out because that game is just about making credits in whatever current exploit that’s available, once you have a Cutter fully engineered it was just funny that no one could ever kill me when I’d pirate. More or less giggle and warp away. Game got super boring. SC is what I’ve always wanted a game like this to be and they’re just shitting the bed. I also give zero fucks about squadron 42. IMO it was made to entice investors by grabbing major celebs and for me I just don’t care. Welcome to the cool table, either way.
I suspect if that is how you played ED then SC wouldn't play much different for you either. You'd focus on gaining credits until you were in a ship that punched above its weight and then get bored.
I wasn’t into combat whatsoever in SC. I did combat in ED only after I have felt like I’ve done literally everything. You aren’t completely wrong though

Yeah I was in one of the biggest groups that exists for ED that have their own space station put into the game. I played with many, it just got old to me after you’ve done it all.
I just feel like I have no where to go right now.
Star Sector
X4 (look at reviews before deciding to buy)
Rebal Galaxy (Worth the sale price)
Everspace 2 (Early access)
Ship Breakers
MSFS (Iam waiting to see if they can mod combat)
Dual universe (more minecraft then space sim)
Sounds reasonable to me. Too many people are total fanboys who pour all their hopes and dreams into Star Citizen only to later erupt in fury when they realize that things aren't going the way they hoped or were led to believe.
It looks like you recognize the cool things that CIG has accomplished, and still would like to see the project succeed, but have just become too damn exhausted from all of the delays, missed deadlines, and miscommunication.
From what you said about CR hiding and Jared "trolling" us, I'm going to infer that you are, like so many of us, also pissed off about the lack of any real S42 status update. You said you don't care for S42 itself, but I assume you want it done asap so they can refocus on the PU.
I mostly follow this sub for the entertainment value, but I do relate to the anti-CIG sentiment here in one important way: I feel that CIG is clearly deceiving the backers by failing to just tell us what the beta date is according to their internal Jira. They have a date, of course, but they simply choose to not tell us. They could very easily keep us updated on what the latest Jira beta date is every month, along with a short summary of why the date shifted, but they are choosing not to do so. And to me that is deceit, and as cool as some of the stuff they're doing is, I will not continue to give money to a company that engages in such deception.
They do not have a date. They showed mocap in their latest video to prime expectations of a massive rework; i.e. stall for another 2 years and continue collecting paychecks. They will claim a delay at the end of the year and in Q1 next year they will essentially say they have to start over in sq42 for some reason.
They use Jira project planning software. There is most certainly a date shown in their Jira for when S42 will be feature complete and ready for beta. That date can, of course, change from day to day as they update the project plan (or "start over"). But there is always a date.
Now this is FUDraging!
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy

Everywhere I go, I’m reminded of how horrible that show turned out to be.
I was considering buying the entire show on 4K Bluray. But the ending taints the whole show now, because you know all those story lines and all that buildup won't go anywhere.
The show died for me when they mauled Petyr Baelish's character (my favourite). While it is evident in the books Littlefinger is being the architect of his own doom, I feel the show handled him poorly in the last two seasons.
I'm pretty sure they outsourced the writing to whoever does the WWE.
I had the same kind of thing going with the Mass Effect trilogy.
I was pretty obsessed with the first two games (and yes, I was one of the people who bought the costume DLCs of ME2 to "support Bioware" even though the alternate outfits looked absolutely hideous for the most part and I never equipped them ingame). But then came Mass Effect 3 and the ending just completely ruined it for me.
I bought the final game on release day and pretty much played it every free minute to see how the journey would end. After I played through the last 10 minutes of the third game I closed it in disgust due to what they did to the story and uninstalled the whole trilogy the next day. Haven't touched any of the games ever since then even though ME 1 and 2 used to be my absolute favorite games of all time.
IMHO the beginning of ME2 ruined the series.
Cerberus 'the anti-heroes' after the shit they pulled? Shepard instantly forgot (s)he can understand Prothean? Timeskip with events which don't make sense? Amongst a lot of other things.
This very, very, very long retrospective completely dissects the series, and while the first game already had issues, Bioware went off the deep end from the very first moment in the second game.
I like the games. I still do. But thinking about it, i can't help but think what would have been if Bioware actually developed the plot along the lines ME1 laid out, instead of going 'full Michael Bay' from ME2 on.
ME2 and 3 especially are games with absolutely great moments, trapped inside a stinking junkyard.
Sorry for offtopic, but I never played Mass Effect, could you or someone else give me some links that succinctly explain where did the story go wrong?
It's so funny looking back at it, how it was all over everyday life right up until the last episode aired. And then it just completely vanished without lasting impact.
When I started my CompSci study every second course referenced the show in some way. It was nuts.
And now that interest has just vanished completely

Welcome to the sub, but I have to deliver a message from the Chairman:
Chris isn't putting enough FUD in the Kool-Aid. They are escaping!
Welcome to your sanity, enjoy the cookies:)
Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that MSFS appears to have the tech to make SC work correctly and they are the ones that took over the last poorly managed Chris Roberts project and at least got it finished and out the door? Perhaps a letter to Bill Gates signed by everyone who would like to see this sham brought to an end would expedite the process that seems inevitable?
