Late game frustration

SpoilerGameplay Help

I love this game. It's great - it's something I never knew I wanted, with wonderful exploration, the exact right feeling and an interesting world with interesting lore.

However. Anglerfish are the most awful thing in the game. I know that they're blind and that I can't just power through, but even just being really careful with adjustments I manage to alert them and get killed. Which would be fine if I'd need to fly directly to the dark bramble, but I need to take the warp core from the ash twin project with me - and that's what makes this just frustrating.

The amount of time to get to the dark bramble again is just too long - you need to get out of the credits, wait for the game to load again, fly to the ash twin, wait quite a while for the ember twin towers to get uncovered, get the warp core, get back to your ship, and then you can fly to the dark bramble.

I've tried this so many times today that I honestly just feel like giving up - the tips I find online that just say "do small adjustments, drift a lot" all just contain stuff I already know.

I also got to the vessel once - however I took too much time to get there and the sun ended that run.

Any tips as to how to either get this loop tighter or get past the anglerfish more reliably? Because I really don't want to give up on this otherwise incredibly great game.

Thanks :]

EDIT: I finally made it. Thanks :)

Don't make any adjustments. You can float past them without touching anything after you enter a node. That's how I did it, and I was using a controller.

Also, you can sleep at campfires to pass the time.

I didn't know that. Anyway, thanks for your help :)

It’s best not to make any movements while you can see the fish. Wait until they’re out of your sight.

A quick search for disabling anglerfish reveals a mod that makes gradual keyboard control possible - so I might've been playing this on ultra hard the whole time without knowing (I don't have a proper controller).

It's doable on KB/M. You literally just have to be patient, there's no need to use your thrusters around them.

When my ship flew next to that big group of anglerfish , I was so scared, that I literally couldn't make adjustments because I couldn't look at the screen. They are extremely horryfying for me for some reason

It’s not necessary, and mods can corrupt your game. It’s perfectly possible to do it on KB and M.

I was mostly curious, and I didn't install any (plus it would've probably been much more of a bother than actually doing it the intended way because I'm running the game under Proton)

There have been Zero cases of an OW mod corrupting OW. Especially an OW mod corrupting your save file.

Maybe corrupting isn’t the correct word, but there have been multiple cases of people using mods and messing up their games on this sub.

I just scrolled through every post that includes "mod" and "mods" and found pretty much nothing (besides from what is below).

The only thing I can think of is a soft lock from TAIcheat that happens when you "warp to vessel" and you keep dying until you restart the game.

I'm not saying you all mods are perfectly safe, but a mod that lets you be able to gradually accelerate on K/m isn't likely to do anything game breaking.

Fucking supernova when I’m entering the second character of the coordinates code🤬

I just wrote an identical rant but found this before posting. This is among several unreasonably frustrating aspects of this game which make me wary of recommending it to friends.

I just tried maybe 20 times in a row with no luck. Most of those times, eaten by fish. A few people mentioned “very small corrections” but even the smallest flick of the analog stick (Xbox controller) triggers them for me. I was resigned to just float past them but on my last run I came to a complete stop and had to do something.

The mix of puzzle game and platformer/dexterity challenge is not my idea of a good time.

You shouldn't come to a complete stop though, since it's in 0G. Floating past them after having a correct course in the beginning (or correcting slightly before the actual nest in the red one) was the thing that worked for me in the end.

I would have said the same but I really really slowed down. Perhaps not an absolute stop, but the distance to the beacon was changing maybe 1m every few seconds. No way I was gonna make the trip before the sun blew up.

I just tried another run without the core and it was much much easier. I don’t know if there are fewer fish early in the loop or what but I made it to the vessel no problem. I did boost early when I entered the first node, which I am typically too scared to do when I have the core, that may be what I need to do.

Thanks for the feedback.

There's no dexterity involved. You just had to realise momentum was a thing and that you're not meant to boost at all.

ezod52•

Maybe unclear in my rant - the fish area not so much a dexterity challenge, but the total final run and several other parts of the game are. I just did a practice run at drawing the coordinate codes (without the core) in the vessel and that is absolutely a chore for me with the Xbox analog stick. Doing under time pressure is definitely what I would call a dexterity challenge.

If you have brought >!the warp core!< with you, entering the coordinates is much, much easier. >!Powering up the Vessel turns the gravity back on.!< No dexterity required.

That will be easier for sure, thanks.

I only had a few tries at it today. Hoping tomorrow I can make it happen

Just watch the ending on YouTube

I actually finally made it (after two more attempts and a bit of a clearer mind), and I I didn't want to watch it on YouTube back when I saw your comment - because if I wanted to watch someone play the game, I wouldn't have gotten it to begin with. And now I'm really glad I didn't just watch the ending, because - to me at least - it seems like something you have to experience yourself instead of watching someone else.

7
pepsi_man_1•

Yea I understand. I had the same problem as you but I guess I just didn’t have the patience or creativity to get the ending myself. After dying in dark bramble after such a tedious process half a dozen times I guess I just said fuck it and watched a video of the ending. I have to say that I’m kind of jealous of you because it seems like a really cool thing to experience when you finally earn it yourself.

3
CodenameLambdaOP•

I really don't want to rub it in, but it was really great. I don't know if it still can have a comparable impact if you do manage to experience it yourself after having spoiled it, but I do encourage you to try.

What got me through was probably just luck in the end, and tapping the directional thruster keys really quickly and sparingly, and only if I couldn't see the bodies of any anglerfish around (and in case of only seeing their lantern, at most hitting a key once).

If you do decide to try it again, I wish you the best of luck :)

This is literally the worst advice.
