Taysom Hill

What are your thoughts on Taysom Hill this season? Saints gave him big money. Will he have a bigger role on offence this year? Could he be used as a bye week desperation QB?

I don't buy it. That means I'm calling a smart franchise stupid but I don't get it. He can't pass -- or at least there is no objective evidence of his ability to pass. I used to stash him on a dynasty taxi squad but I can't see him on a standard roster. Such a bet would be 90% premised on organization and 10% on actual talent -- and who does that?

I'm going to try and get him really late in my 24 team slow draft as a my 3rd QB

Strictly as an emergency QB

Not sure if you're being sarcastic. Mine is a 12 team start 2 QB so you do the math. He'd be attractive for 6 GMs in our league.

I'd grab him if I didn't have a backup and hopefully only have to use him once... But Peyton could definitely use him more and get you a steal.

Hes definitely talented.

I really am doing a 24 team slow draft. We've been drafting for weeks.

If Nick Foles starts for the Bears I'd never have to use Taysom.

I'm in a similar situation but I grabbed trubisky as my backup... He was the last one left.

He averaged 5 points a game last year. So I guess you do the math on if that’s good or not?

I think he’ll be extremely interesting to watch in leagues on ESPN where they’ve designated him as a TE. Anywhere else, and I think NOLA just found themselves a better version of Tim Tebow.

Bye week desperation in SF or 2QB leagues maybe. I’d rather take a shot at terrible QBs on waivers if it’s 1QB. Probably gonna have little to no predictable fantasy value and all he’ll do is vulture TDs

It's 12 team start 2 QB so you do the math. He'd be attractive for 6 GMs in our league.

If someone is hoarding QBs then yeah it could be viable if there’s NO ONE on waivers

That’s a flawed league. SF is the way to go with more than 10 teams.

Then why are you asking? He has no viability in leagues where it's not mathematically impossible to fill your roster without using him. In your super specific situation obviously a QB who is on the field at all is better than literally nothing.

I mean, he is my QB33, so if you have no other options...

He's a fun one to play at TE in ESPN leagues.

Thanks. I'm just trying to figure out if he's a passable QB for 2 bye weeks this season.

That wasn't the question 🙄

I think a lot of people are dismissing this question too quickly. Aren't there some sites that are currently listing Hill as a TE instead of a QB currently? If he is listed as a QB, he has no value almost anywhere. If he is listed as a TE, then I could certainly see a world where he finishes as a fantasy relevant TE. The Saints can do some weird, creative stuff sometimes. They just paid him pretty well, so its conceivable that he might play a bigger role in all facets of that offense. Would it shock everybody if his switchblade skillset was able to net him ~150 points in half PPR? That would have made him the TE7 last year.

But just to reiterate, if he is listed as a QB, then he is not worth anything.

150 would be shocking because he had like half of that last year

Yeah, he finished with like 92 points or something in half ppr. But it was an EXTREMELY efficient 92 points, as his volume was very low despite being used in a variety of ways. I don't expect him to get to 150 points, but I don't think that outcome would be outrageous. The Saints can do weird stuff, and its perfectly reasonable to presume an uptick in volume after the Saints paid him millions of dollars. He also has multiple areas where he could receive an unexpected uptick in volume. What if Kamara or Murray goes down with an injury? What if Brees goes down and Winston is terrible? What if Jared Cook or Trequan Smith go down and the Saints need another pass catcher?

Taysom had 27 carries and 19 receptions last season. He's never going to get 200 touches in a season, but what if he gets, say, 90 touches? 45 carries and 45 receptions? Would that be a ridiculous number? Could he turn that volume into 225 rushing yards with 2 TDs and 500 receiving yards with 7 TDs? That would be right in line with his career rates and it would amount to about 148 fantasy points in half ppr. Add in the 5-10 passes that he'll almost certainly throw and that gets him to at least 150. I think he's an excellent late round flyer if he's listed as a TE in deeper leagues.

I realize I just made a ton of assumptions and laid out purely hypothetical scenarios, but all I'm trying to illustrate is that it wouldn't take much to make him a viable TE option in fantasy.

espn he's TE only
