The brief categorizations of bracing methods (contracted vs protracted) that he discusses are something that I've always pondered about a lot.

Before I lifted my perception of any squat movement was one with contracted abs and lumbar in flexion. This largely came from the "flatten your back against the wall" exercises I did for PT in youth, but in the past few years I have "corrected" this by learning the typical neutral/contracted lumbar spine position.

Overall it has been interesting but also frustrating to learn about the nuances of braces, especially considering my history of back issues. Right now I focus on the "block the cannonball" ab contraction then take in the breath and contract as much as I can.

I always thought you were supposed to just do both at the same time and kinda pull against your own muscles. Seems to work well for me. 🤔

This popped up on my feed earlier today, and I have to say, it definitely helped.

Today happened to be leg day, so i figured I'd try to clean up my form a bit. The part that helped me the most was allowing for a little bit of upper body "dip" at the bottom of the rep in order to hit depth.

Before, I'd always try to keep my body much straighter, and I'd always see myself stopping about an inch before full RoM. Today, I felt it much more in both my hams and quads, great vid imo!
