This is really a really pleasant thing to chew on. The dimensions of the fisherman's ownership of his space are interesting to consider. What are the ramifications of his occupation of space?
Who is lured - his children learning the practice? Rival fisherman, edging in on his spot? Or does ownership of the spot simply attract a kind of generic opposition from the outside world? Do boundaries, even implied boundaries, invite intrusion? Nature does not acknowledge ownership - are such boundaries as a fisherman's "spot" (as informal as it is) even justified?
This feels like something that should be on Instagram, or almost like a Haiku.
I appreciate it, and feel like there is something very sweet in the simplicity of this piece.
I really enjoyed it. Keep it up!
What is sweet and simple about it? Try and be specific and tell the writer WHY the poem made you feel what you felt.
A fisherman can always spot a fisherman from afar. I love this- it makes me think "stay away from my fishin' hole!" I like how few words you use-- my father hated talking on a fishing trip. He would approve. Thank you OP
I'd like to think the fisherman lores all the things in his life to him building his own reality, short but great poem !
Catch anything?
Very nice short form. I really like the metaphor about fisherman and luring. What is the spot though! Theres almost not enought to really know, open eneded.
Overall the ryhtym is nice for sure.
I love this. Such a concise though evokes so many questions. A spot where there is so much history, so many conversations, so much emotion, solitude. There is definitely much more than the concrete. Unless it has a more sinister meaning, which is also very interesting
i love short, concise poetry. this poem has an awful foreboding about it—that last line scares me. although i have to complain that, for me, this poem lacks enough context to establish any message that isn’t entirely imagined by the reader. but that could be entirely what you’re going for! and that’s great!! but just for me, i wish there was a little more substance.
Why is it not that this fisherman is at a fly shop, persuading the fisherwoman at the counter, for a 10% off the new "Fishy-2K" rod, to catch only bullfrogs at a local fish farm located 3000 ft above sea level.
Good poem
This is pretty good, it’s simple and brings forth memories of reading Old Man and the Sea. The simplicity of the poem really highlights the simplicity of fishing. Reading is mere simplistic pleasure, again just like fishing. This simple poem, with its simple ideas and simple structure, really do pull these memories of simplicity and relaxation to the forefront of the mind.
Edit: expansion
Can you expand on this feedback a little? Why does the poem work?
