That's hideous. Sorry. I don't know if it's the stone or the work or both. Sorry

He just said its his first post. Dont be a dick !! As your profile has been live for 2 years and you haven't posted anything but questions on an 8 year relationship. I suggest you keep your pointless/unqualified comments about craftmanship to yourself until you post something with your stonework to show!

Congrats on the first post and your first wall! Getting the chance to lay a wall for the first time is definitely exciting. Its clearly a rubble style rustic wall so dont listen to the hate.

Just a tips from what I see.

I like the moss look on the faces of the stone, just make sure you take a wire brush and remove ALL organic matter from the sides and back of the rock. There should be no moss in contact with fresh mortar. Leave it on the face by all means just clean up the rest to ensure good bond.

Keep at it and post some more progress!

Thanks! We power washed all the backs and sides. The stone is actually hand picked from a ranch near the black hills. We are using wall anchors almost every other stoned. Seems to be incredibly solid. Thanks for the tips!

Can I hire you?

Whew, you've got some work ahead of you. Take your time. Every mason has their own style. Getting the mortar to look like its on one single plane can be very challenging to do with stone.

Haha! Yes I do.. unfortunately the last couple of days have rained. This weekend we are getting back after it. It has been a laborious project, but I am getting better at it. The back part of the house is my practice run. I think by the time we get around front we should be hitting on all cylinders.
