Getting Back Change: Coins or Cash First?

Coins first keeps everything in place, but it seems that retail and service workers everywhere prefer to lay out the cash first and spill out the coins on top of it so that they slide off or make it an awkward grab.

Are retail workers trained to do it this way, are they trolling, or just inconsiderate?

When I worked retail, I made a purposeful effort to give change first, because of how much I hate getting change on top of bills and having it slide everywhere.

However, some people like to get change on top so they can count it. It's really a matter of personal preference.

I did coins first because we were expected to count it back.

Cash then coins because cash has the bigger value.

I give change first than cash with receipt

Coins or cash? They're the same.. Or does cash mean something else wherever you are?

I'd rather have notes first and the coins weigh them down.

Give me the coins first so I can pocket them quickly. The bills generally get folded and or some how arranged in the wallet/some other holder. This results in less time of you standing there with my money waiting for me to take it.

Coins first, all the time. I trust the person behind the counter enough not to mess up. Additionally, I am in Canada so most of my change is a loonie or a toonie so its clear how much I am getting back.

Coins, boxers, paper.
There, now I've answered every dual-answer question at once.

It should always be coins first

No matter how I'm handed my change, I fumble with it. Coins on top is what I'd like to think I prefer, so that I can slide the coins into the coin pocket in my wallet, but then I fumble with the bills. Bills on top means I can slip them into their pocket, but then I drop coins because my hands are small.

However, when I'm handing someone their change, I hand them the bills first (with the receipt underneath), and the coins on top so they can count them, and see that it's the correct amount. Normally women just throw the coins off the top into their purse, and then put the bills in their wallet, and men just shove it all in their pocket.

I also agree with Release_the_KRAKEN that the bills have a larger value, so they should be handed back first, but I can't say that I'd thought of that previously.
