MVP Open Megathread

Can we get an MVP Open Megathread?

I want to continue the discussion from last week about these advertising walls in an around OB lines. Seemed to wreak havoc with Simon on hole 5 - no one knew if the wall was OB or the water.

Totally. If the water is OB, Simon was robbed of potentially 3 strokes. Also, this coverage is AWFUL. Artifacted video, audio cutting, people on back channel mics being broadcast live. Embarrassing.

LIVE FUCKING ACE. PAUL FUCKING MCBETH.

And Joran Castro skips off the basket!

RULE 6 FOR GODS SAKE

tacoriddles•

almost unwatchable quality right now

11
Dagur•

Poor cell phone signal

1
BallnGames•

So Simon was potentially robbed of 6 strokes on 2 holes. 3 on 8 if his drive was in bounds and 3 on 5 if his drive was in bounds.

11
thesaganatorColorado!•

Not robbed, he kinda just gave them away but not calling provisionals

9
MA202OP•

Brutal. I missed the beginning of hole 5's shenanigans - was it another bad judgment call?

7
BallnGames•

For one it actually crossed in bounds and then under the wall that isnt actually the OB line. The spotter didn't see that and/or didn't know that it's actually the water that is OB on 5. Simon did play a provisional from the drop zone though so hopefully that score will be corrected after the round.

Even though the tee signs/maps say "pond is OB", most of the ponds out there have rope around them marking the true edge of OB. They'd be better off writing the rules on the maps as "Pond (as marked by rope) is OB", but everyone there knows the ropes are the line.

2
BallnGames•

Yea I guess I'm still confused as to why he took a 6 on number 5. Unless he went OB on his provisional put it doesn't make sense.

Also his drive on 8 was in bounds why didn't the spotters see that?

1
delpreston27•

That is 100% in bounds.

9
materium22•

It seemed to me he was robbed if water is really OB.

It's hard to even see what's happening to know if we should be mad on Simon's behalf. The video quality is jumpy and poor, and the audio is lagging. Very tough to watch. They addressed that they were having technical difficulties, but they've had practice at this stuff now at different tour stops.

Our catch cam was freaking out. So we had to make some audibles. It really fucked us for a few holes. We hope we got it cleared up during FPO.

5
delpreston27•

Definitely got better as the round went on. Today the audio has been very laggy again, with delays up to a minute. Couldn't really tell what Paul was upset about, as I didn't see the lie. The lag finally caught up on hole 9 right before Klein's big putt though. I know all this stuff is incredibly frustrating on your end as well, and you all are putting max effort into making this as smooth as possible.

1
jvphobicSmashBoxxTV | Jonny V•

IF the lag is up to a minute on the audio, you may want to try a refresh. I haven't heard of others having that issue. Honestly not sure, that is very strange.

3
delpreston27•

It must be on my end then, during round two I was refreshing every 15 minutes or so. Third round today I had no issues, the feed quality was great! I was watching on a different device though. Maybe my smart tv isn't so smart anymore.

2
MA202OP•

Simon not calling a provisional on hole 8 is a big oof. I'd never throw from the drop zone without being 100% sure my drive was in bounds.

8
delpreston27•

They have spotters for this though...

6
MA202OP•

I'm just always going to say "this is a provisional in case my shot is out of bounds". Ya never know, and it cost him 3 or 4 strokes.

3
jeremykrhodes•

McBeth ace was beautiful!

6
delpreston27•

It's crazy that I live in Worcester 20 min from the tournament, but my coverage is so behind that I read this comment 2 minutes before I saw it "live".

4
jeremykrhodes•

Sorry to spoil it man. Just don't get to see live aces very often and I got excited

3
delpreston27•

Heck man, it aint your fault! Be excited!

2
cascadian102•

Is no one talking about Steve Brinster's ace on 8 as well??

Uli just posted an Instagram story of him at Urgent Care...hope everything is okay.

5

Came to see if there was any news on that. Hope he’s ok.

2
swbstx•

No context on why? Did he injured himself playing or something unrelated?

2
TLDRmaskeo13Noodle Arm•

No clue, haven’t heard anything.

1
jayl3nbrown•

Did he delete it? I don't see

2
TLDRmaskeo13Noodle Arm•

Aw yea looks like he did. It was in an urgent care with the caption “At my favorite place”

1
cascadian102•

Like Doss mentioned, I looked at the caddy book and I think if Simon's disc was on dry land, then he was inbounds. The wall in the caddy book does not indicate the OB line. Does that mean he misplayed his shot when he took a meter from the wall? If so, his score might get worse after the round.

4
_ICCULUS_RHBH, WI•

My guess is at the player meeting they said all OB is marked with string. Editing my own comment to say I'm dumb and that there probably wasn't a player meeting.

1
finnjon•

I don't understand the inflexibility with calling "provisional". If a player and the spotter think it's OB but by some weird chance it isn't, why not just accept it and let the player move on. The craft of disc golf is about throwing the disc, not evaluating where it landed 300ft away in unusual circumstances.

4
MA202OP•

McBEAST! And Castro right behind him on hole 8. Spectacular lines.

3
Dagur•

Strange how little they show the feature card. This isn't bad either but I would love to see Ricky

2
jvphobicSmashBoxxTV | Jonny V•

Had a camera issue. So had to adjust on the fly. Not by design, trust me.

3
fattyboombaladdyRaleigh•

I know this isn't an official thread but did anyone hear about double Gs penalty strokes. Looks like he got two but the Jomez coverage doesn't point it out.

1
Disc365•

Round 2, Hole 8, McBeth got a double bogey in the video from Jomez. On the UDisc official scores, however, he got a 4. Does someone know what the deal is with that disc-repancy?

greystuart777•

I mean it’s inexcusable to be the single option for live coverage of these events and have sloppy and unprofessional execution tournament after tournament.

-6†
tacoriddles•

I actually think they’ve been fine until this week but this is poooooor

9
mr_3fflikes discs of all colors•

They seem to be having trouble with their signal in the forest. A little to be expected at Maple Hill.

3
GoatPaco•

Post production is a much better product, even with getting potentially spoiled

2
greystuart777•

I’m getting downvoted. Sigh. I work in the live event production industry. The production is sloppy every event. Randomly cutting cameras to shots with nothing happening. Putting graphics on the screen for the wrong holes. Trying to cut to a replay and it doesn’t work. Cutting to DiscGolfGuy or Hannah for an update and the mic is muted. I understand that live coverage of a disc golf tournament is not easy. But small things like that are an easy fix.

2†
nothingbetterto_do•

Feel free to make a massive donation to them in order to provide the resources you expect from a skeleton crew trying their best to provide live coverage then

1
swbstx•

It's a service we're paying for. Seems perfectly reasonable to be upset about a product that isn't delivering what you feel it should for the cost you're paying.

Feedback like this is something the network should want to hear so they can at least try to address it. I'm sure they'd prefer to know people aren't happy with the product rather than just losing subscribers.

Coverage was great until this one.
