What a dream job that would be. A data scientist for my favorite team. Currently in school for data science, so maybe one day.

Now you know who to contact for a Zoom chat/introduction, good luck with it (by the way, there’s a fantastic piece on The Athletic about LFC’s data scientists, you may be interested in)

I did apply for a couple of jobs at the club. Need to improve my resume 😅

This is what VVD must have been thinking about for the Sissoko/Son situation

You don’t need data science for that tho. Defending 2v1 like that is «by the book» and used fundamental principles of defending threats and space. In other sports where 2v1 happens way more often, like Lacrosse, Basketball, Hockey etc... this is as ingrained for defenders as defending 1v1.

Cool. Thanks for the post.

Just had a thought while watching the Video and seeing the colored area under control. Gegenpressing really maximizes your team's area under control, reminded me of Hotelling's Law in Economy.

I’d prefer that we kept this to ourselves but great insight nonetheless,

Dont worry. Everyone has data people signed up.

This isn’t an advanced or original technique. It’s just a basis for building more specialized models
