The first shou puerh that I actually enjoyed from start to finish, and I don't even know what it was.

That is a wonderful setup you have! 🐙

Found a mini tuo in the back of my tea closet, and decided today was the day to give it a whirl. I've probably had it close to 5 years now. It was wonderful. The harsh leather/tobacco normally in shou's was completely gone except on the nose and initial sip. The midpalate was sweet and delicate, finishing off was slightly almond nuttiness.

All in all, it's a great way to kickstart the mood before having to work nights this weekend.

You accidentally aged to harsh notes out of it.

Indeed I did; I just wish all puerh would age as gracefully in an open air environment...

Shou is much more forgiving.

Heresy! On the other hand... I found the first shou that I could live without this week. I love the leathery smell and taste. Haven't found a shou yet that I would call smokey but I'm still looking.

Have you tried Liu Bao?

I've had the 803 liu bao from YS. It's what I would call stemmy, not smokey. Smokey to me is like a peated scotch or like a lapsang souchong.

Ive got a couple liu bao's recently, and they definitely match up with what I recall of a really good lapsang from W2T that I had. They were from Purple Cloud Teahouse. I haven't found any shou's that have a smoky flavor, as they tend to be 'wet woodier' than smoky

Yeah my experience is the same with the shou's. I haven't found one with a smokey taste, but I've been told they are out there. I can also say I haven't had a shou with a fishy smell or taste either, but they are out there. lol.

My experiences with lapsangs are all smokey. I've only had two nice ones though. I primarily switched to puer with some heicha tossed in. Just bought a kilo brick of fuzhuan though so I might be broadening from Puer to heichas overall.

I like your tea ocean. Where’s it from?

I think something got lost on typing or translation, I'm not sure what your asking about?

A tea ocean, or cha hai, is the container into which you pour your tea before pouring it into cups. Here is a random source on the matter
