Log what you eat in cronometer for a week and then see what you lack. Add foods in to balance things out. I eat at least 2 pieces of fruit every day and vegetables with every meal. I try to make all my meals complete in macronutrients, so some carbs, some fats and some protein. I eat mostly a wholefoods diet and make my meals from scratch, due to ibs and food sensitivities. I try to have a variety of foods and eat different ones every day. For carbs I alternate between quinoa, buckwheit, different legumes, pearlbarley, rye, different types of rice (black, white, red all have different nutrient profile) different tuberplants etc. I eat red meat once or twice a week, fatty fish at least twice a week. For veggies I just buy whatever is on sale and try to make it work with the rest of the foods, again I do try to alternate veggies every day. For desert I mostly have dark chocolate, yoghurt with nuts and fruit type of stuff. Sometimes I bake my own cookies or muffins, usually once a month. Before ibs my diet was not nearly as clean or diverse.
Logging food is a great way of tracking what you eat - there is a great free app called 'MyNetDiary' - at first you have to search and find everything you eat. After a few days it remembers your ingredients and you can quickly make a favourites folder - most of my meals can be logged in under a minute.
The paid for version you can track micro and macro nutrients if you want - but as long as your logging each day you will see what your eating and what is missing from your diet.
