PSA: News Corp link - I won’t feed them the click traffic. That said, thanks OP for bringing this sad story to our attention
A newscrap link eh...That's sad. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Jesus that was horrible to read
This can't have been an accident. You don't need to know a lot about horses to be able to tell the difference between specially bred and trained (racehorses? stockhorses? unclear) and brumbies. The differences would be visible to the naked eye - and I'd like to think a hunter would know the difference (though I don't have my hopes up too high).
“Sporting” and “Shooters” don’t seem to go together well. I don’t think those dumb horses had a sporting chance to escape from those boofheads.
Surely there's a stack of criminal charges going to be applied here - and surely that would also mean permanent loss of gun license for those involved.
Could this be insurance fraud?

You can eat horses luv
Was apparently eaten in the UK in the 1930s, Yorkshire.
Australia[edit] Australians do not generally eat horse meat, although they have a horse slaughter industry that exports to Japan, Europe, and Russia.[citation needed] Horse meat exports peaked at 9,327 tons 1986, declining to 3,000 tons in 2003. They are at Peterborough in South Australia (SAMEX Peterborough Pty Ltd) and Caboolture Abattoir in Queensland (Meramist Pty Ltd).[55] A British agriculture industry website reported that Australian horse meat production levels had risen to 24,000 tons by 2009.[56]
On 30 June 2010, Western Australian Agriculture Minister Terry Redman granted final approval to Western Australia butcher Vince Garreffa to sell horse meat for human consumption. Nedlands restaurateur Pierre Ichallalene announced plans to do a taster on Bastille Day and to put horse meat dishes on the menu if the reaction is good. Redman said that the government would "consider extending approvals should the public appetite for horse demand it".[57]
Vince Garreffa is the owner of Mondo Di Carne, a major wholesale meat supplier, which supplies many cafes, restaurants, and hotels in Western Australia.[58][59] He commented that no domestic market exists for horse meat, but a successful export market exists, of which he believes Western Australia should have a share.[57]
In October 2019, the ABC revealed that thousands of retired racehorses were being slaughtered annually for the export market in human consumption. Each year, about 8,500 horses are retired from racing, many of which are slaughtered.[60] Overall, as of 2012, about 94,000 horses were annually slaughtered, presumably including animals whose meat does not enter the human food chain. You can buy horse meat to eat in perth
Still pretty common to eat horse in many countries. France and Japan to name but two.
Don't really see the issue tbh.
It was apparently eaten in the UK as part of the 2013 horse meat scandal as well.......
Shooters gonna shoot, no matter what they say.
In the end it's always a quiet threat. "yeah... I've got guns"
From 'social' problems to international relations, when your only tool is a hammer, all problems are just nails.
That's a damn Melbourne Cup winner surely if it was worth $500k. Obviously a past winner.
Then I had a horror thought.. isn't some of the meat products sold by that German chain supermarket, Killarney station? Hmmm
30 horses worth 500k, not one horse.
Duh
That's a damn Melbourne Cup winner surely if it was worth $500k
'Pparently not...
There was nothing sporting about that those cunts. He they were given permission to shoot pigs or goats 10km+ away from the main property, sneaked in and shot the horses, tried to hide the bodies, gave up on that and said he might have accidently shot a horse or 2.
I hope SSAA tell the bloke to get stuffed and void his insurance.
EDIT: Turns out it may have been planned cull on the property that may have included feral horses. It means they would have had GPS and should have known where they were. I still stand on my view of them being cunts tho. When one shooter f's up its reflected onto every other shooter in the country.
I support responsible gun owners and it's up to the SSAA to self regulate and do what's within their powers about these guys.
Self regulation never works. They need to be beholden to legally enforceable laws with their professional registration riding on the conduct of their members. This isn’t a gardening club, these are fuckwits with firearms!
