Things that have really impressed me so far with this phone
- The camera and processing. OK - enough said on that one already.
- The optical image stabilization. Obviously it works well for photos allowing a longer exposure, but video is superb too. I tried a short video walking forwards at a gentle pace and it is almost like a professional tracking shot!
- The recorder with instantaneous transcription. This is a game-changer for me. I make a lot of voice memos while I am out and about and then have review (or not) when I get home. But with instant transcription the process so much easier. I cannot believe how accurate it is too. You can mumble. You can um and er as much as you like. It copes with wind noise and background music. Astonishing!
- The screen with adaptive brightness. So far I have not needed to ever change brightness. I watched it as I walked in bright light under a bridge and out the other side today. It just very smoothly adjusts over a period of about five seconds. In light mode, the white is set so that the screen looks like paper rather than a screen.

You're lucky....
The adaptive brightness isn't too bad generally, but it sometimes just seems to get confused and starts pumping the brightness up and down.
It's particularly touchy at first, before you've trained it, of course, but even after having my 4a for a month there are still times I've got to correct it, sometimes repeatedly in a short period.
I think it would be really nice if it were more transparent about what it's doing, e.g. with some display that shows the training samples it's using, and the resulting response curve it's calculated from them....and maybe let you tweak that directly.
Funnily enough, I have just accepted an Android system update and immediately the screen brightness started pumping up and down! Argghh!
Yeah I thought the auto brightness was fine, but this update had a supposed fix for the issues he was having. But now I'm having those issues immediately after updating.
