Regarding hooking up to PC

Question/Support

EDIT: So ended up with a couple questions other than the one in the title. Thanks for your input!

Hey all. Never really considered an Oculus until I saw how well the Quest 2 is reviewing. I have some questions for those in the know.

Regarding the Quest 2, I'm looking at it as a birthday present for my son (preteen):

1- Do you need to buy the link kit to attach it to a computer and use as a normal VR headset?

2- How quickly does the 64 gb fill up?

3- How intrusive is the Facebook account? I assume you buy all your games through their walled garden. Is there a way to install "non-approved" apps?

Thanks for reading, your answers will help me decide if this is the right choice for my kiddo's birthday present.

the link allows your computer to send a compressed video signal to your quest. Streaming from virtual desktop does the same thing, the question is, is your network good enough to beat the Link cable set up?

i heard quest games havent been over 4gb yet.

no idea.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear you can do wireless streaming, that would be great for a start without having to mess with the cables at first just to "try it"

Great info on the size of the quest games. I was thinking they would be like an average steam game at 10-20gb and you could only fit on 2 at a time after the device overhead.

Yeah I was surprised when I read the games were that small as I come from the pc vr world as well.

Still trying to figure out if the link or vd is better for me.
