E3d clone

Hey I ordered a e3d V6 hot end clone for my mono price mini v2. I am unsure if it needs a different mount to connect to the gantry, or if the stock one still will work with it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is the one I use, as it lets me use the stock pieces, and then I use this fan shroud.

The V6 is a little different length wise (well, height wise with how it is installed) than the V5 that comes with the printer.

The one thing to look out for with the clones is how flush the heatbreak will sit against the nozzle. The clone I got came with a really messed up heatbreak and it took forever to figure out why my printer was randomly jamming.

It's probably worth buying a the official heat breaks and an official heater block if you want to minimize trouble. The knock-off heatsink will probably be fine, but man, since I lost so much time with that funky heat break, i've been a little more fussy about when I get clones :)

I think I’ll definitely get the official heartbreak then, I was already dubious about it since it’s probably the most important part so I’ll swap it out on the clone kit.

Cool. The benefit of the official heater block is that it's A) a little bigger, B) uses cartridge style thermistors so it's a lot more friendly for mucking with if you have to, and C) has high quality silicon socks readily available for it.

I ended up learning how to mold/cast high temp silicone to make a sock for my other printer... lol... such a pain...

I recommend checking this website for almost everything regarding the mp mini.:

I had to print the zero offset hotend bracket which was on thingiverse. Other than that the v6 clone works great.

I believe the v2 came with a v6 clone already, right?

If so, you should be mostly set. Might have to relevel the bed or adjust the z limit switch.

Yeah I’ve been trying to figure out what it came with, reading up it seems like a v6 clone but I see mentions that it’s slightly different, though idk if that is for like ptfe lining or an actual slightly different housing. I guess I may just wait and see but wanted to figure it out before I opened it up to compare the new and old

The original Hot end is a weird v6 clone. A standard v6 will fit without big modifications.

Ok a little research showed that the original is apparently a “v5” clone (didn’t know that even existed). I think it should be good maybe I’ll just have to play with the z end stop or add a spacer I think. Thanks!

Yep. The only difference is the heat break. V6 is all metal. V5 has a PTFE liner. At least that is my understanding. The V5 is easier to use and more forgiving and the V6 is able to print at higher temps but the setup is trickier.

The V6 is about 3mm skinnier than the stock V5 on the mini. Abs my glass bed happens to be 3mm. No adapter, the offset from one is compensated by the other.

Oh that sounds like it’ll work out perfect, I have a glass bed coming in the mail so I may wait and make sure it all lines up

If the glass is too thin, you can add a layer of aluminum foil to conduce heat and add thickness I guess (untested)

Wait so you ordered a different hot end before doing any research about how to mount it?

I knew I didn’t want a ptfe lined one that was stock. I can always print a mount dude, just didn’t know if it was absolutely required
