Accuracy Week 6
The trick was apparently to simply avoid my #2 kicker last week... The most infuriating part of getting burned by Bailey is knowing that all my other top-10 picks did pretty good . And (as a result of my model filtering many good options to the top) net accuracy was significantly better than other sources. (Other sources may have led you to Crosby, Zuerlein, Gost for example.)
The only way this can bring comfort to those of us who streamed Bailey is to realize you made a good/rational choice-- My model is working, it is not some crazy unverified toy model. It is built to pick up on good situations, and the Vikings were expected to enter a good situation-- winning by 4 points a comfy 29 points... that was a good situation. Unfortunately, the Vikings were NOT expected to be down 0-20 at half-time. People were burned even worse by Mattison as a result of game script. So anyway, Bailey was a good bet, especially since my model is working surprisingly well-- But that's just football.
Remember: normally there will be a bust from top-ranked kicker most every week. I used this Error Chart a lot last year to remind you of this requirement of statistics, and here is how it looked for week 7 in the middle. (The far right chart represents what you should usually expect to see).
But great for you if you got Koo, Tucker, or Slye!
