Thinking about this series makes me sad

With ATLA, it felt like a complete story after season 3. Aang was The Avatar.

But with TLoK it feels like Korra was just getting started. And we’ll never see how great of an Avatar she can be.

I know, I know we still have the comics. And I’m grateful for it. But frankly it’s not enough. The comic trilogies go too quick. They should make like 20 issue thing. Having only 3 issues seems to rush the story and impede us from getting to know the characters.

I just wished people would’ve shown more love to TLok when it was airing (as they should). We could’ve gotten more.

I think you feel this way because aang had one huge story and it felt very satisfying to complete the mission he had since the start of the show. It's very lord of the rings. They've basically brought paradise on earth like the ending of lord of the rings, there's no more evil. It's basically a kumbaya sort of ending.

While korra has 4 missions and each time she completes one, she goes on the next one. Her story is basically it never ends. There's always more to do. It's definitely more like a comic book as evil or violence or war will keep happening and it doesn't end with just one big effort. It will keep coming back in many forms. It might not be as satisfying as a lord of the rings/ATLA ending but it's more realistic.

But Korra has her character arc that makes the ending feel like an kind of conclusion at least, at the end she is a fully realized avatar and while there'll more dangers coming up. She won't have anymore internalized conflicts like before. She will take them on at her best abilities. She's become the savior that the world needs. It'll be much easier for her to deal with conflicts from now on than in the past 4 seasons.

It's more of a character ending than a story ending and that's what's great about it.

I like that explanation. Both shows are great and very dear to me too.

I agree that the LOK ending wasn't as satisfying as the ATLA ending, but LOK didn't have the same overarching story. It was more of a season-to-season show, so it would be impossible to have an ending with the same impact. If they had another two seasons that showed a continuous story I think everything about Korra's story would be over. I want to see how she handles challenges as a more compassionate person and how she get's pushed to her limits by a new villain.

Agreed, there wasn’t a beginning and ending with Korra, it’s just feel off at the end
