Unpopular opinion: you don't need an empty stomach to have a good trip.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that maybe there's a correlation between: people fasting to have an empty stomach for tripping, and people who can't figure out why their stomach always hurts.

Could it be.. hunger? Or that mushrooms are mostly chitin, a tough fiber to break down which causes your stomach to release more acid? Or both?

Jussayin, I've never given any consideration to making sure my stomach was empty when eating psychedelics, and I asked a friend who's eaten even more mushrooms, and in his method he specifically eats a light meal a little bit before dosing, so that he doesn't have to deal with stomach discomfort.

That conversation got me thinking about the question another way. Is there a normal food that I feel confident I could eat before dosing, that would make me immune to the effects of psychedelics?

The answer is no. I can't think of any foodstuff that I would be confident taking as a "vaccine" against tripping.

So the question is where does this idea come from? I'm going to suggest 2 ideas: alcohol and pride.

Alcohol, because that is a very common drug whose experience can be influenced by stomach contents.

And pride, because it is easier to believe that your lunch was an antidote for magic mushrooms, than to think that your mushrooms are not potent, or that you are bad at growing/got ripped off/etc.

Idk thats just me. Seems silly how often people suggest the last "meal time" as the most relevant factor in an underwhelming experience.

I conquer with your post. I’ve dosed after meals and had AMAZING REALITY SHATTERING trips! Plus it helps immensely with nausea

In my experience food delays the onset but the overall intensity is unchanged

shAmen to that!

empty stomach was always more nauseating, and having no energy while tripping is definitely not a good thing. experience was always more muddy and not that enjoyable compared to when I ate mushrooms few hours after a solid meal.

Yeah completely agree. When I dose on an empty stomach I get discomfort and nausea. If I have eaten a few hours before the trip is much much more physically comfortable. Agree 100%

More on less chances of puking

In my experience, if you eat at least 4 to 6 hours before you eat your shrooms, it wont really weaken the effects. If you eat a big ass meal and have shrooms for dessert, youll most likely have a weaker trip. Thats just my experience. You dont need to fast, but it helps to have a more potent trip, IMO.

As for nausea, lemon tek seems to fix that. It also seems to enhance the effects.

Happy trails!

I think the logic is that when seratonin agonists flood your system, the body will have a tendency to expel food, in either direction. Same idea applies to LSD.

But my personal experience is that food is better than no food. One time after coming down my stomach was in knots and I was suffering on toilet for a while, this was after peaking and some sleep.

Depends on how slow you digest. People with high metabolism can eat before, itll be digested before you are even tripping.

It’s science, Google it :)

Could you be more specific?

Personally, when I eat fresh-picked shrooms, my stomach issue is slight and quick. When I eat them dry, a little more stomach issue like I’m very hungry. I also eat them hours after a meal and I don’t eat again until I’m on the other side of the trip/high and I’m ready to normalize.

I get low blood sugar so I always eat during the trip, I also recommend it to stay hydrated.

Try fruit.

We strategically place water bottles throughout the house, and fresh fruits.

every persons body and stomach is different so it’s not science nor fact

Other than the chemical compounds they contain, the flesh of magic mushrooms is basically the same as other mushroom species. Therefore, investigating how the human body digests mushrooms may offer clues to why they cause nausea in some people.

😝To summarize, the indigestibility of mushroom flesh may contribute to feelings of nausea. However, cooking magic mushrooms before eating them may defeat the primary purpose if it destroys the psychedelic compounds.

You can cook mushrooms and not destroy the actives as they don’t even start to breakdown until 400f. Making a water extraction helps with nausea as mushroom contain a fiber called chitin that is hard for the stomach to break down causing stomach discomfort and nausea

I understand the fiber/ chitin, but a blender breaks that down for me.
¥Another mushroom expert, Dr. Andrew Weil, says in Prevention Magazine that mushrooms should be cooked before eating. “Mushrooms have very tough cell walls and are essentially indigestible if you don’t cook them. Thoroughly heating them releases the nutrients they contain, including protein, B vitamins, and minerals, as well as a wide range of novel compounds not found in other foods.” According to the Mayo Clinic, nausea is one symptom of indigestion.

In addition to chitin being largely indigestible, a 2018 study showed that it triggers inflammatory and immune responses in humans.3 Although the human body doesn’t make chitin like mushrooms, it has an enzyme called chitinase that breaks up chitin molecules a little by chopping their long N-acetylglucosamine chains (see figure below) into smaller pieces. However, due to their smaller size, the body can more easily sense these fragments, which can magnify the inflammatory and immune responses.
