Linux GUI testers needed

We recently had some issues with the GUI not starting on some Linux systems. We reverted the change for v0.17.1.4, before we apply it again we would like some testers.

#Instructions:

We tested it on successfully on

  • Tails
  • Debian 9
  • Ubuntu 16.04
  • Ubuntu 18.04
  • Ubuntu 20.04

The binary has been taken directly from our Github CI system: https://github.com/monero-project/monero-gui/pull/3227/checks

Started fine on Ubuntu 18.04. It got very upset I wasn't running monerod in simple mode, which I thought was the remote node option.

As an aside, wow, that software looks beautiful. I'm a CLI user and it's been years since loading the GUI. Incredible progress!

You also have to set monerod as executable for simple mode to work. This will be done automatically in release binaries.

Starts on my Debian 10 "Buster".

Tested on Linux Mint 20, Kernel 5.4.0-53-generic.

It starts well. But in advanced options when starting the daemon it fails. I had to start it manually by console. ./monerod

Started perfectly on Pop!OS 20.10 (based on Ubuntu 20.10).

Starting fine on current Solus (5.6.19-519.current). I got these warnings at first start only (and these four errors that I assume are expected?)

Similar on Pop OS 20.04 (5.8.0-7630-generic), no tcp errors this time but way more warnings about EnglishOld duplicates and shorter than prefix length as with Español above.

I'm also getting this at every start:

WARNING: CPU random generator seem to be failing, disabling hardware random number generation
WARNING: RDRND generated: 0xffffffff 0x...

Why could that be? This is a background miner if it makes any difference.

Some AMD CPUS have broken random number generators
