Is this a scene from the Grinch Halloween special
No matter what the music is I'll only be able to think "Eu-cha-ri-a! Eu-cha-ri-a! Grinch is gonna get ya! Grinch is gonna get ya!"
That shit is like an animated fever dream
It's a wonderful night for eyebrows
There was a Grinch Halloween special? 👀
There’s also The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat. I remember seeing that when I was a kid. Very weird to see The Grinch in different contexts.
Well TIL 🙈
It's called Grinch Night

That was OG Grinch. Before he stole xmas
Thanks! I was wondering what this was. I'd love to get a clip of it without the waveform to use as a video background on zoom.
Yessss!!! Always loved how weird that was!
I like the direction this kind of lofi is going for. Instead of being pleasant and relaxing, this is low-grade anxiety. Not outright terrifying, it isn't going to make me have nightmares, but it's not exactly comfortable.
If you like this kind of music, you could also check out DJ Krush, a lot of it is that kind of low-grade anxiety, creeping, grungy sort of sound
666 likes, I'm spooked
Makes me think of the tracks on Dr. Octagon.
I was thinking DJ Krush
Thats quite a compliment. But yeah, I hear the inspiration.
I just started hearing "Blue Flowers, Blue Flowers". lol. I love that shit! Dan the Automator!
He’s got cirrhosis, of the eye!

This reminds me of the Adult Swim soundtracks they’d use before a commercial break. Good times.
Oh cool, you're right. I didn't pick that up.
I like it much better with my glasses off!
Omg I love dated. I listen to them in the playlists created by ill-advised records on YouTube. Yall should check them out
This sounds like a cod menu screen song🤣 it’s pretty good tho thanks for the recommendation
Yeah, he's got a lot of good music.
This track is from the LP "Halloween Lofi" so this time we can blame the artist for the genre mangling. Excellent tunes btw.
Yeah, I first heard it here. I figured if the artist and record label call it lofi, who am I to argue?
Sounds a lot like a guy called Klaus Waldeck I used to listen to in the 90s
When you just want to go to your friends house for a sleepover but the local Klan sect has been huffing old turds out of a mason jar again
This beat is begging for a sick rap remix.

Is "lo-fi" just a gentrificated way to say HIP HOP? its hip hop. the fuck is a lo fi? Zoomers just call it hip hop and get on with it. fucking weirdos
In terms of lofi that can apply to any genre. Neutral Milk Hotel, I would, say would be rather indie lofi.
lo-fi hip hop means "low fidelity" refering to, in this case, the production. The mixing is different. Its hard to explain but think of the atmosphere "lofi" hip hop. There a lot of static, old unmastered quotes and trys to mimic tape playback from the 80's and 90s before everything was on computer. Same thing happening with this track. Sounds similar to something from DJ Shadows Endtroducing which was made primarily on turnt table using manual sound engineering. Its not perfect, its low, low fidelity, lo-fi and hip hop.
Chopped and screwed mixes are hip hop but they follow a basic boundary like "lofi" For example slowing the bpm to 70-80 and reducing the key the song is in. We know a chopped and screwed song by the voices being octaves lower than the original.

In this case we have a lofi hip hop song because of the above.
You sound like someone from a portlandia sketch.
It is what it is. I hope I answered your question.
I like this. Back in my day we called this music trip-hop.

Genres are descriptive, not prescriptive.
Not lofi no matter how you try to keyword it
I didn't. The artist did. Go tell them how wrong they are for labeling their own music incorrectly. Or go tell ill-advised records how ashamed of themselves they should be for not knowing that there's a VERY CLEAR LINE between lofi and trip hop, with NO OVERLAP. I'll even help you write the letter.
"Dear Dated and ill-advised records,
How dare you! Genre definitions are SACRED! I hope you get cancer!
Sincerely, u/chuchupalx"
Edit: Sorry, I was hungry.

Lofi has to do with the texture of the music and how it's made, it doesn't have anything to do with the emotion the music is putting across. It's to do with techniques in making the music, and before the whole "lofi hip-hop beats to study to" genre became about, it just meant to do with the music being low-fidelity and having (artificially or from tape machines) "analogue warmth" or a slightly distorted sound. The "lofi" descriptor covers a vast amount of genres and has been about for decades. This definitely has lofi elements: eg. distorted drums and the tape effect on the main chord sample.
All of that is true and is good info to have but it's also important to remember the plasticity of language, especially when we're talking about connotation. Some people might just say "well those people are wrong" but I think that's short-sighted.
Was gonna say the same thing, this sounds like something you'd hear from DJ Krush
And then there's me, sitting over in the corner, not even knowing "lofi" stood for anything (I have a 5hr playlist on Spotify of my favorites) and has absolutely zero (0) musical knowledge, going "ooh, dark lofi? Wonder what that is!" and then opens the comments to... this thread..
I might listen to music literally 24/7 (Little Wanderer by Death Cab is currently playing on my headphones) but it's moments like these that I remember how little I know about the media I consume the most...
Wanna share that playlist...pretty please :)

Hope you enjoy! I update it every once in awhile, I bounce between this playlist and the livestream lofi radios on YouTube whenever I wanna freshen it up a bit.
Awww cheers
Have you heard of Gnash? 🎄 Just recently discovered him~ p good 👌
