CMR, here’s a petition for sedition

Politics

Hey friends, sign this petition to stop CMR from being seated after she signed-on to replace voter choice with a court decision. She’s a consummate hypocrite considering she’s won several elections via mail-in ballot. She was part of the coup and should face consequences.

Signed. This whole deal reeks. I’m pissed.

It might look like a coup, but it's not. It's 3 things.

  1. It's a fundraiser. They've gained a giant war chest from the morons who thought their donated money was going to the legal effort to overturn the election. The money simply filled the depleted Republican war chest that was recklessly spent by the Trump campaign.
  2. It's a strong political move. It's a way to weaken the incoming administration politically and fire up the base for 2022.
  3. It's retaliation for Russiagate. The President came within a couple of votes of getting convicted and his legal troubles still aren't over. But, the entire scandal was perceived by Republican Party members to be both 1&2 above.

In other words, she signed on to a weak legal strategy because she knew there was zero chance of it succeeding and it accomplished those three goals. You've got to appreciate the Machiavellian nature of Republicans. It's honestly lacking in the Dems as they quietly sit on their hill of righteousness.

regardless, it is still seditious. There should be consequences.

I think the 3 points above are a good interpretation of events, but still the nature of this is they played a dumb game for future votes and the consequences are their own election results. If they willingly took the nature of this at face value they signed onto it expecting the constitution to be directly challenged by their move and thus attempting to seed further dis-confidence of the current system in the minds of their voters. If they all get unseated then the GOP will call fowl and start another political war.

They knew what they were doing and if we act in regards to the constitution, they will look like the victims to the republicans. As an independent, I think this looks like a way to dismantle a two party system but in about the most conspiracy driven way possible. Most republicans I talk to think the two party system is as solid as the gold-standard, meaning they understand its not real anymore but they hold on to it like a lifeline. We simply have no easy way forward without upholding the law as it stands and unseat those who signed on. Its playing into their hand but that's the only option we have, becuase clearly voting isnt a valid form of citizen choice anymore.

Yes, round them up and offer Medicare for All, better environmental regulation, zero corporate welfare, higher taxes on the wealthy, less military blank checks, greatly reduced money in politics and free pre-k through post-grad education. The rich children of the Bush’s, Clinton’s, Obama’s, Trump, Pelosi’s can pay for it.

1
BasherDOP•

Of course it’s a con, but she should be held to her signed word.

7
ballaedd24•

It's a fundraiser.

It's a strong political move.

Honest question for my own edification: Does this mean that this could possibly be categorized as corruption?

5
BasherDOP•

Some sort of bog, morass or swamp?

1
reckoning42Colbert•

By definition? Sure. But honestly, which peak of corruption are you going to focus on in today's mountainous corruption landscape?

I haven’t seen any donation emails from the left (ok, maybe one or two from GA). I feel especially sorry for the poor rubes (not the rich tubes) who think Trump has a chance and that their few buck will help him “win”. CMR signing on to get that last dollar for this magic-beans shitshow was just one hypocrisy too far.

pm_me_ur_mollusks•

So we're signing a petition to replace voter choice with a court decision because that's okay if the point is unseating these people? 🤔

7†
Sunny_Jim509•

Per the Constitution: Amendment XIV, Section 3-

" No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

We're signing a petition to uphold the Constitution.

The case she signed onto did not allege fraud. It sought relief based on inaccurate historical trends and misinformation. It also sought the precedent of one state telling another how to run its election. It sought to throw put millions of votes just because.

Again, don't let the mechanism or the level of success cloud what they intended to do here. And she happily signed on.

This is an uninformed take.

1
Sunny_Jim509•

Which part is incorrect? The part I quoted?

2

Your interpretation of the words you quoted.

2

What they did was hardly insurrection or rebellion.

Dumb and wrong.

Not insurrection or rebellion.

-32
Sunny_Jim509•

Insurrection: an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.

Sedition: incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.

Her oath of office: "I, CMR, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

Absolutely should not be seated.

21

So, she went to Court? And lost.

And that's that....

Again, hardly insurrection or rebellion.

HaffasNorthwest Spokane•

You don’t have to sign of course. I feel like people just get frustrated when their elected officials take to seditious behaviors and seek to undo a lawful election - going against the will of the people.

That’s just never going to stand no matter how long and noisy your little caravan of losers is.

24
pm_me_ur_mollusks•

I didn't fully understand the argument being made in this petition and after reading the threads on here, I have a better understanding. It still seems like a long shot from a legal perspective, but at least I get what is at the heart of the argument now.

And yes, hopefully it will never stand. Thanks.

3
BasherDOP•

That’s awesome! Sign or not, I’m glad you we got some clarity. There’re some well thought out and communicated comments here!

Yeah, because the dems didn’t try to unseat Trump from day one in office or anything. How much BS did they make up to overturn an election? I’m not a republican or democrat just stating the facts.

-22
CopulaVVManito•

Name one thing democrats made up about Trump

15

Slide on over to r/donaldtrump if you’re looking for some insight. Prepare to be frustrated and mindblown all at once

4†
Simple_BarryBrowne's Addition•

Yeah, because the dems didn’t try to unseat Trump from day one in office or anything.

Yeah, Democrats did not do that as a matter of fact.
Republicans on the other hand were planning investigations and impeachment for Hillary Clinton while she was still the nominee.

How much BS did they make up to overturn an election?

Such as?
Be specific and show your work.

I’m not a republican or democrat just stating the facts.

Your previous two sentences suggest otherwise.

5
BasherDOP•

HC conceded on Nov 9, 2016. Sure her surrogates whined, but they didn’t try to throw out 7 million votes. This isn’t a “both sides are equal” situation, guy. These assholes are unbound by propriety, president or shame.

2
CopulaVVManito•

You're right. They didn't try to do that.lol. you're not staying facts. You're watching Fox news and are a centrist Republican but don't want to be called a fascist so you label as something different to hide your true colors.

Sadly, it won't go anywhere, even if it gets to people who could actually do something. Most of these are just farms for contact info so you get added to mailing lists all begging for money. I still signed it, CMR has to go.

That explains why sedition should result in removal from office. It does not explain why her actions should be considered sedition, from a legal perspective.

It’s fine if you don’t know the answer, but I personally wouldn’t sign a petition with so little supporting argument.

Of course sedition is bad, but I haven’t read anything other than Reddit comments from angry/disappointed constituents that gives any explanation as to how this amounts to sedition.

Hypocrisy sucks. Too bad I had to vote 3rd party to avoid it.

0†
BasherDOP•

Not too bad, what other option do we have? Manufactured consent and all....

0
Bizoza9•

The only option we have is to force change in some manner. Simplest way is ensuring votes bleed off of the duopoly forcing the 3rd party options to get close enough to scare the two parties. After that things get crazy really quickly and partisanship makes meaningful change impossible.
