Who here gets migraines too?

People with bipolar disorder have a higher risk of suffering migraines than the general public. Do any of you guys get migraines, and do they affect your mood?

Oddly enough, I'm often hypomanic the day before a migraine, and sometimes during (case in point, tonight!)

Just trying to pain manage and mood manage right now. Take care out there!

I don’t link my migraines with my mood necessarily, but yes there actually seems to be a link between migraines and bipolar (also ADHD). I watched a professor giving a lecture who touched on the topic.

But there is not a lot of literature out there to substantiate it or determine a real connection.

Yeah, neurology is so complicated, for sure. From what I've read, there definitely is a link between the two conditions, but so much more research is needed to understand what that link is.

When I get hypo or have prodromal hypo symptoms (my hypomania is somewhat controlled/less severe with the meds) one of the things that points it out to me is not a migraine per se, but the entire world becomes unbearably loud and I basically have to just lay in a quiet dark room and do nothing to feel better. Or go to bed. The TV is yelling. The sound of footsteps or a door lightly closing sound like the volume of yelling or a high quality sound system at a concert.

Oh wow, I experience this too! Everything is loud, the sun is loud, the hum of the fridge is loud. I always attributed it to my co-morbid ADHD, and the sensory overload thing. But I bet it's both, because this sensation happens much more frequently when I'm in a mixed episode.

I'm glad that you're able to tone down your hypomania with your meds. I'm currently trying to do the same:) Take care.

I never get headaches. I've always use to call migraines headaches because that's genuinely what I thought having a headache was like. Now having both and knowing the difference of both on top of being diagnosed bp 2 about 9 months ago it would make a lot of sense to me. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and the antidepressants I was taking gave me more frequent migraines and id say 80% if not 90% of the time id be hypomanic. If that might be the case for you as well then keep track of it. Im going to do the same thing myself now knowing that there might be some sort of actual link between the two. It probably doesn't help that migraines agitate the fuck out of out some sort of tight blood vessel (apparently just a genetic thing no serious medical issue) in my right eye that makes the pain pulsate not only my head but my right eye as well. Hope this helps you and gives you some insight and I wish you a stable and healthy mindset everyday!

For sure, I made 'migraine' one of my 'activities' on my Daylio app. I just need to keep collecting data on myself to figure out what's going on between my migraines and my mood:) Thanks for replying, and I wish you the same!

I don't get full blown migraines that often but I do get a lot of headaches. I didn't know there was a link

Yeah, me neither, until a few months ago when I googled the connection a whim. One article I was reading, don't remember which site, claimed that people with bipolar disorder have a 3 times greater chance of suffering from migraines. But whatever the number, it's super interesting.

Well that explains a fucking lot.
