Rail fence placemat pattern

Beginner Help

I appear to be in nesting mode with my current pregnancy and I want to make a quilt. I haven’t quilted anything yet so I want to start out with something easy. I figure the quilt might be done by the time she gets married, lol. Rail fence patterns seem doable and I have a history of unfinished projects so starting small seems to be a good idea. Placemats are what I have landed on. Where can I find a Rail Fence Placemat pattern? Google isn’t bringing any of them up, except to buy the completed product. Are they terrible to make? Am I searching with incorrect terminology?

I think it might be easiest to just find a youtube tutorial on how to make the blocks, and then figure out how many blocks you need for the size you want the placemats would be and do it that way without a pattern. If I am looking at the same thing as you are, it looks like every individual piece is the same size rectangle, so you could just buy or make a rectangle template for whatever size you want to work with.

Just skip the placemats and make the baby quilt! I promise you can handle it!

Also be aware of colour and placement with split rails. Three years ago a table runner entered into our local fair had a (hopefully) inadvertent swatsika in it's red white and blue split rail.

Yes, a rail fence is a great beginner pattern. You might consider buying a jelly roll (precut fabric that coordinates with each other).
