Soon to be moms placed on light duty...I have a question

Help?

So! I am 21+3 right now. Heavy lifting job, dealing directly with Covid+ patients as well. Last OB appointment the Midwife told me she would recommend not lifting anything more than 25 lbs. I kinda chuckled because 25 lbs is easily one or two bags at work, not including having to possibly carry patients out of their homes. OB offered to provide a note to put me on light duty. I declined - then yesterday I became out of breath and felt abdominal twinges all day. Told my boss, my OB is going to be putting me on light duty. He repeatedly asked me why “unless she is just one of those doctors...” and he trailed off. I don’t believe your job has any right to ask why, correct?? Any help is good help right now! Thank you in advance!

Same question- have you told work you’re expecting? I’d get the note. Stating it’s pregnancy related should be enough- I wouldn’t think they can require you to disclose details about your pregnancy/health

That’s what I was thinking too- that it’s HIPPA to disclose anything more than pregnancy related reasons that the doctor provides in the note.

I don’t quite understand this post. Does work not know you’re pregnant?

Yup, they know I am pregnant. That’s why I was so confused. Another employee was saying to someone else that was pregnant that lifting restrictions is a myth according to her OB. I internally rolled my eyes at that one.

So, isn’t the answer to “why” the following: “due to my pregnancy.” I guess I don’t understand what additional information he wants?
